When I was leaving Duesseldorf, dusk was already coming down and as I was sitting in the plane waiting to take me away, reflecting on my lovely weekend, I spotted the *spotters* dozens of them - all watching the planes landing and taking off. Duesseldorf Flughafen International has 90 airlines flying to 180 destinations worldwide and it is possible to enjoy the views from this modern airport at the visitors terraces. A soft drink here will cost you 2.90E at the Bistro Leysieffer
Opening Times:
Daily 6am - 9pm
Admission is free to both visitors terraces.

Dusseldorf has it's own airport, but there are many nearby airport that are very accessible too, so it's worth shopping around for the best deal. Dusseldorf is a major international airport, with destinations on four continents, and you can be in Dusseldorf city centre in minutes by train. Another "Dusseldorf" airport, Weeze Airport, is popular with budget airlines, especially Ryanair, but it's not really in or near Dusseldorf at all.
Cologne/Bonn airport isn't as busy as Dusseldorf but it's probably more convenient than Weeze Airport. and has a lot of destinations served by two of Germany's high quality budget airlines: Air Berlin and Germanwings. These serve a host of major European cities, including Budapest, London and Copenhagen. They are joined by a number of other budget airlines, like EasyJet and Wizz Air, as well as a small number of national airlines, including Turkish Airlines, Air France and even Iran Air.
The airport is easy to get to from Dusseldorf. There are public buses and a busy train station (accessibly via the Sky Train). And if you are in a rush there's always a taxi. Check the website for details.

In 2008 I went to the Maldives. I flew from Düsseldorf International Airport to here. The airline I used was LTU. This airline is part of Air Berlin. It was a pleasant experience to fly with this airline. Especially I was using business class. The staff was friendly. What do you need more?

From where I live (Apeldoorn, the Netherlands) it is easy to go to Düsseldorf International Airport. It is 1,5 hours by car.
The Airport is so huge. Therefore it is easy and relaxing to walk around up here.

Nice shopping arcades, but be advised to do your shopping before you proceed to your gate, as there is nothing past passport control.
NOTE: If using the car parks, get there early. It took me 30 minutes to claim a space in a very overcrowded car park

The new airport at Weeze is advertised as 'Dusseldorf' by
Ryanair, the main user of the airport. Does Ryanair know where Dusseldorf actually is. You could argue that the airline doesn't know it's arse from it's elbow, and therefore has trouble locating places - but it does seem to be working. There are now six destinations from the tiny airport (approx 75km's North West of Dusseldorf), that it services : London, Glasgow, Shannon, Stockholm, Rome, and Barcelona.
If they have the same success here as at Frankfurt Hahn (again it's bloody miles from the city itself) then expect this list to grow in the next couple of years.

You can fly from/to düsseldorf(actually köln/bonn airport, but it's just 30 minutes away by car and maybe 40 using the ICE) pretty cheap using germanwings www.germanwings.com
They have many destinations around europe, it's worth to try it.
Suscribe to the newsletters on their website, they make crazy nights once in a while and all tickets cost 19 € that night.

This airport is commonly referred as Airport Niederrhein near Düsseldorf. It is not really very near, but still there is a great chance that you will use this airport as the popular airline Ryanair uses this airport. You can get very cheap flights to/from several destinations around Europe.

The airport is will situated to the city. There is a good and fast airport connection from main station to airport by S-Bahn. Take the S-6 and it will bring you within 15 minutes to the city center for € 1,90. Follow the green signs "S" at the airport.
Taxi is around € 15.
