The Pretty Vacant: Pretty Vacant Club

by leafmcgowan Written Mar 28, 2009

Saturday nights: The Sound's of Swingin' London.
A great little hole-in-the-wall club and bar in the heart of the old town district of Dusseldorf. Around 10 pm, this little bar becomes infested with the Brit-pop crowd of Dusseldorf piling down into the bricked basement for a crunchy sardine-packed dance night to some of the cities best post-punk, brit pop, UK indie, and electropop. Fabulous time. The music was great and the drinks were good. Service was great as well. Spinning great tunes by the DJ's: 1. sa: POPMISSILE F1-11; 2. sa: POP GOES MY LOVE; 3-4. sa: FISH'N'CHIPS. For any Brit Pop / Post Punk junkie ... this is the place to be in Dusseldorf. Excellent! Rating: 4 stars out of 5.

A great little Morroccon cafe in the heart of old town Dusseldorf. Some of the cities finest cocktails, desserts, and bar-time snacks can be found here. An incredible ambience, hospitable staff, and a great place to hang out while visiting this famous city. A must visit location. While I can't comment on the food as the only item I personally ordered was the hot chocolate with a shot a bailey's Irish cream, I've been told the menu items here are fabulous. Rating: 4 stars out of 5.

Seifen Horst: Unterbilk - a nice place for a drink

by Charri Written Sep 18, 2007

Seifen Horst used to be a pharmacy. Behind the bar you can see the shelves where the apothecary jars used to be. It is a great place to meet friends and have a relaxed drink and the staff are really easy going. The music is good too. It is open all day and into the evening.

  • Cafe Modigliani: A nice student type pub

by sabsi Written Jan 23, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Cafe Modigliani is a kinda cheap pub (at least for Düsseldorf standards) with a nice atmosphere in Unterbilk. People are more the "student type" than the yuppie scene you normally meet in Düsseldorf. Very refreshing!
The whole place is full of posters. Even at the ceiling.

Light Benches: I've seen the Light !

by sandysmith Written Oct 7, 2004

In the Hofgarten (near the Goethe Museum) you find these light benches. I was so mesmerised by the way the neon lights lit up all the trees around them - I took far too many shots with my digital - Sabsi couldn't get over the fact that I didn't need a tripod either ;-0

    Bar am Kaiserteich: cultural drink

    by wilde13 Updated Jan 16, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This bar is situated in the modernart museum surrounded of a park (see travelogue winterday in k21 ).

The people are more relaxed and more calm when somewhere else.
The restaurant/bar is quite trendy. You get a selection of cakes or anyother food.

At night, they have around 200 different cocktails you can get out of a book.

Dress Code: Leisure, as you feel.

    Templum: Biergarten I

    by wilde13 Updated Dec 18, 2003

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a quiet, not very lively place.
The bar is an old shooting gallery and it is relaxing sitting outside under the very green trees. It is a place, where you wanna talk instead partying.

In the building, there is a big hall for private parties. Book advanced. Very impressive.

Dress Code: dress leisure, feel leisure, talk leisure

  • Kasematten: Outdoor Drinking along the Rhine

by sabsi Written Aug 10, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Along Düsseldorf's waterfront there's the longest beergarden of the whole town. At the Rhineufer Promenade there's outdoor seating provided by the different breweries of the old town.

Normally it's more quiet here than in the old town and the views and the beers make it a great place to spend the evening.

I was here last week during the big heatwave and the place was packed with people here. Some tables stood in small swimming pools so that people could cool their feet. A very refreshing idea!

Even in winter a great place for a drink

    Frankenheim Brauereiausschank: Some more Alt???

by Bigs Written Jun 28, 2003

The Frankenheim is one of the typical brewhouses in Düsseldorf.... Sabs always enter the place before and after her Finnish course, so I have been there too...

The staff is friendly and it´s not so hectical as in the famous brewhouses in the old town...

    Dress Code: None........of course!

Krokodil: A beer down the road

    by IceBear7 Written Feb 9, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This place is very much off the beaten path! I discovered the Crocodile about a year after I had moved to an apartment 2 minutes away from it.
In the north of Düsseldorf, nothing fancy, just a quiet place with a jukebox playing all time favorites, local food, good Altbier and friendly staff.
And they really like crocodiles: they are everywhere, in photographs, in paintings, toys, decoration of furniture and and and. In a different location you would call this a theme bar ;-)

    Music is nice everywhere...

by AndyRG Updated Dec 18, 2002

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Andean music, played on the streets, is so peaceful and dreamy, isn't it? Especially outside big shops, and if the weather... helps for it, as it often rains, you can see such amateur musical groups, maybe better than professional ones...

    Music gives life...

The beergarden belongs with 1.100 chairs to the biggest beergardens. The view is sensational and is one of the best shots in town.
