Miscellaneous: Get Roy Kift's extremely informative guide to "Düsseldorf, Aachen and the Lower Rhine". It's packed with great tips for public transport, and has some excellent restaurant recommendations, alongside a plethora of cultural information.

Luggage and bags: Backpacks make train travel a lot easier but someone has to figure out a way to transport alt with the new 3 oz regulations on planes!
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Layers are necessary especially in winter. Being on the Rhine makes Düsseldorf a damp and often cold place.
Photo Equipment: Wide angle makes for fun if distorted pub shots and the zoom is great for taking sneaky photos of friends.
Miscellaneous: Diamonds may be a girl's best friend but roses are for everyone.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If you plan to go out in Düseldorf you should bring trendier with you. Düsseldorf has a lot of posh locations and if you want to come in you have to be dressed in the right way. But fi you go out in the Oldtown you can of course wear normal clothes.
Miscellaneous: The German weather is always good for surprises. It can be very cold and rainy in the summertime but it's also possible that you can wear t-shirt and shorts in April or May. So don't forget your umbrella and at least one warm pullover and one pair of long trousers (or buy it in Germany in case you need it).

Luggage and bags: We brought too much (as usual) - probebly we only needed 1/2 as much as we brought. Bring as little as you can get away with, so you can take home more wine from the great Rhine & Mosel vineyards, and Elektro Puzzi from the supermarket.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Weather can vary a great deal. In summer it's usually warm, even if it rains. I just used T-shirts the whole trip (all with sleeves, sorry Sabs :-P). You might want an umbrella or waterproof top though.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Nothing special - you can buy anything you need here.
Photo Equipment: Nothing special again. I used my Fuji digital camera and it did a more than adequate job.
