Zum Schlussel is yet another Dusseldorf institution on the busy Bolkerstrasse. Though a bit more upscale than the city’s other brewpubs it is nonetheless a traditional and noisy affair. Oddly enough the servers are women, quite unusual and different from the other brewpubs in town.
Favorite Dish: It serves perhaps my least favorite alt beer in town among the four inner city brewpubs but it is still a quaffable beer that goes well with its extensive menu. My last time in town we had already eaten a sizeable meal so we opted for an order of Treberbrot mit Schweineschmalz (spent grain bread with pork fat) for 3.10 Euros. On a past visit I’ve had the leberkase (meat loaf type concoction) with fried potatoes and green beans (currently priced at 9.10 Euros) which was quite large and filling!
Their Sticke (strong) beer is served the last Wednesday in March and October.

This nice restaurant is situated in the Altstadt close to the longest bar in th world. There is a typical German feel to the whole place including ditto waiters and waitresses.
Favorite Dish: The Schlöffel serves excellent dinner at a good price. The beer is delicious too and brewed in the restaurant. I had a schnitzel, which they called Krüftchen. It comes srved with an egg and chips or potatoes.

This restaurant is in the centre of the old city, it is traditional but touristy as well. Inside there is a brewery as well and the Alt Bier is really good.
We alos had once a great VT meeting here with eating and drinking great food.
Favorite Dish: The Schnitzel, see next picture.

Besides being excellent restaurant this place also has its own brewery of AltBier inside the restaurant. In the summer places outside are very crowded but service is quick and you will never really have to wait for your new fresh glass of AltBier.
Favorite Dish: The Schnitzel & the beer of course.

It is a typical German tradition to sit in front of the pub under huge parasols and kill several beers. As "zum Schlüssel" has an own brewery it is a must to have some glasses of the local Alt Beer.

We had our VT-Meeting in this local brewery. Prices for drinks and food are about average.
Take a look at my travelogue for more impressions of the meeting
