I have never come across this name before with churches, but then it only got this name in 1916, in honour of the song writer Joachim Neander who lived in the 17th century. It was built as the first Reformist church in the city in 1684 and is very pretty.

Its just yellow big building, and not love. Promise, it wont make driver passing by get blind. But still noticable and quite different style compare to buildings surround. Serious serious, its a St. Maximillian building. Im not spending long time here. I skip it to be in modern museum, next to this building.

Wandering around. How would you do that in a church? Me? Still considering respect, sit down in the middle of the hall, and look above. Lets forget awhile any details of history written in your guidebooks or brochure available there. You can enjoy arts, in your way. You know if you can admire, or just skip it.

In the background of the Burgplatz you can see this peculiar church tower. It belongs to the St. Lambertus church. After a closer look you will notice that the spire is all twisted. It is said that this is a result of using wet wood and when it dries it gets this kind of shape.

This late baroque Jesuit church was built in 1629 and has an ornate galleried interior. There is a mausoleum to the rear which contains the coffins of the Electors Palatine, the king makers of early Germany. These electors, like Count Palatine of the Rhine, were members of the electoral college of the Holy Roman Empire and elected the emperors, while being dynastic princes themselves.

The St Lambertus church with its 14th century brick architecture and grand, tall and twisting spire (reminscent of the Parish Church of Chesterfield in England) is a real icon for the city. The foundation of the church dates back to 1380, when the city of Düsseldorf was named the capital of the Duchy of Berg and a period of rapid development ensued. The tall spire dominated the city for a number of centuries, but now finds itself dwarfed by Düsseldorf's many skyscrapers. Despite its lack of physical stature it still stands out clearly from the opposite bank of the Rhein.

St Lamberts was built in the 1200s and was reconstructed in 1394. It is famous for its twisted spire... according to legend, the tower was built while the wood was wet and as the wood dried, its shape changed. Look for this great, old church near the marktplatz, along the Rhine River.

St Andreas is a beautiful and unique church in Dusseldorf's Altstadt (old city). Its unusual baroque architecture is painted a bright yellow, making it easy to spot and a good landmark. This church was completed in 1629 and is important because it is a stunning example of baroque-era architecture in Germany.

I read that the roof of this church in the old town is crooked because it was built with wood that wasn't dry enough yet. I don't know how much of that story is true but it looks funny, anyway!
I have also heard that the tower will be straight again as soon as a virgin gets married in the church....
