This street is heaven for stag and hen nights, lots of beer and wild partys, on a low level... Apart from some brewing houses there are mostly places locals wouldn't go very often - it's a tourist place!
Drink a lot in a different place before you go to Bolkerstraße, be female and find a guy who pays your drinks for the rest of the night. That should only take 30 seconds or so.
Ratinger Straße, just minutes away, a lifely area with nice pubs and brewing houses, much more "civilised"... Leave a Comment

Nicer views on the other side of the street by sabsi Oh well .... if you are into stag nights and Palma de Mallorca's Schinkenstrasse, All-year-round-Karneval and drinking Sangria from a bucket - then this is the place for you! I myself use Bolkerstrasse at night to get from A to B (not very quickly because of all the crowds) or to go into some places I like here (like Schlüssel or an Irish pub). But other from that I am happy to escape the Mallorca madness!
Have a beer in Schlüssel, Dutch Chips ("Pommes Spezial") at the chipper and quickly head to another street!
If you like crowds - Ratinger Strasse is crowded as well but the crowd is a bit nicer than the one in Bolkerstrasse. If you don't like crowds - don't go into the old town at night but maybe into the port or something or then sit at the Rhine. It's quiet and beautiful there! Leave a Comment

by blue-viggen I did not find any real tourist traps thankfully in Dusseldorf, though like any big city better to be safe than sorry... Leave a Comment

Uerige's beer was once well worth transporting by richiecdisc Yes, on my first trip I bought some of these 'swing top' bottles of Uerige Alt for the train ride back to our hotel in Cologne. It was tempting on my second trip as well, with these bottles just waiting down the end of the hall. Like I needed more beer after this outing with Kai. On subsequent trips I've brought the world class alt bier back to the US and to D's father in Saxony but alas no more as the 3 oz. rule makes transporting beer a huge hassle. :( Leave a Comment

Direction Düsseldorf by sabsi Don't bring your car into the city centre. Parking is nightmare in most areas of Düsseldorf and to use the car parks in the city centre will be very expensive! So leave your car on the outskirts or in a residential street without machines and signs (you'll be lucky to find one!) and use public transportation from here. Leave a Comment

Old Town by sabsi I paid € 3,10 for a small Diet Coke in a bar called Balthasar (Old town) once. It's a stylish place and the food is nice but it's a bit overpriced! Leave a Comment

"Kunsthalle Düsseldorf" and "Kunstverein für dir Rheinlande und Westfalen" are two arts museums housed in the same building. Only go there if you like very modern art... I was there twice and always found the exhibits very disturbing. Maybe I'm not a true art lover...but they have a very special sense of art... There is one cool thing about the building: walking past this building towards the Altstadt, you might see a stovepipe up high on the outside of the building. It's a piece of art installed by Joseph Beuys in 1971. Beuys was a professor at the academy of arts at the time and with this pipe want to get rid of all the old fashioned ways of teaching, old fasioned ways of being an artist, all the bad vibes. Look for that stovepipe, you'll like it! Address: Grabbeplatz 4, opposite K20
Go to the K20 or K21 art museums, they have exhibits of the 20th and 21st centuries respectively - and they are usually well worth a visit! Leave a Comment

The Canal on Königsallee by steventilly I didn't see anything I'd call a tourist trap. To be honest, Dusseldorf is not a city that thrives on tourism, but it is happy to welcome them. The whole city was like a breath of fresh air to me - vibrant, friendly and welcoming.
