Shouldn't be worth talking about! But everyone who is still thinking about driving after some drinks. FORGET IT. They will get you.
Düsseldorf is known for the "Längste Theke der Welt" (longest bar of the world) and the police does have some pritty good efficient driver tests!
Although the weather conditions are veeeery mild in Dusseldorf, I was impressed to see how concerned the local authorities were with people attempting to walk on ice. One question only: what ice? The only patch of ice I could see at the end of December was on the ice skating ring in the centre.
It is a well known fact that good neighbours do not get along. This proves to be true in the case of Düsseldorf and Cologne.
Legend goes that it was the devil who twisted the steeple of Saint Lambert's out of anger because Düsseldorfers refused to drink kölsch (the typical beer from Cologne) at any cost.
Follow my advice, and do not get involved in the polemics between both cities and never praise Cologne when in Düsseldorf.
No dangers except that when visiting the local train station in dusseldorf there did seem to be a large number of gangs of kids hanging around which a local native friend advised me that there was a large number of Crack Cocaine dealers operating in this area and to be tuned in to the climate and to watch as ever the flaunting of money or wallet.. so be aware people..................
PLEASE USE public transportation in and around the city... u get almost everywhere pretty fast by streetcar, subway or bus... with a dayticket its fairly cheap... there are almost NO free parking areas, downtown anyway, and parking fees are outrageous... usually 4 DM per hour and during rush hours you will definately end up in a huge traffic jam somewhere in the city
By taking public transportation you see more of the city anyway =)
I could not find any internet cafes in Dusseldorf. I asked tourist information who gave me vague details of where to find one. If one did exist in the area, it wasn't well marked or open. Just make sure you don't need to check your email when you come here.
At the Mediahafen, there are buildings designed by the modern architect, Frank Gehry. While Gehry is quite famous having designed buildings all over the world, I'm not a big fan of his style.
If wandering in the park at night be careful, you'll never know who you'll come across on those light benches ;-0 Well those light benches do keep you warm!!!
