 | Duisburg Nightlife | Tips 1 - 10 of 11 | | Pretty much every town and city in Germany has at least one local brewery. Duisburg’s local beer is called König Pilsener – otherwise also short and affectionately known as “KöPi” -, quite simply the best Pils beer you will find in Germany.... though I admit I may be biased. :-) It’s on sale in just about every pub or restaurant in town and you must give it a try. The Filmforum is a local cinema that is partly financed by the city and shows a variety of high quality films that might otherwise escape attention. Though not the best place to find the latest blockbuster on release, you will always find smaller, more independent productions from all over world on show there. Though most movies in Germany are shown dubbed, the Filmforum occasionally presents films in their original language, so if you’ve been on the road for a few weeks and in urgent need of a cinematic fix, this may be the place for you. The Filmforum also has a very nice bar with a variety of original posters and rare photo material on its walls. In warm summer nights you can sit outside. Leave a Comment

Walking around the city at night you may often think this is a ghost town, but if you walk to the train station’s back entrance at the East side, you will find an entertainment complex with several cinemas and a variety of different pubs that do actually have more than the standard half a dozen visitors that you would find elsewhere in town. Fabrik, Kulturzentrum (Cultural Centrum) It's a very small altenative location very hidden somewhere in Duisburg City. I don't really know what kind of special qualities this nightlife spot has, but I liked it there because there where so many different people, but no buisness people and also no party folks. I went there with some friends to a Industrial performance. That wasn't my kind of music, but hey it was fun and I saw something new. They mostly play Punk and Ska and Punkrock. Also alot of Concerts with german and international Punkbands. It's not for the mass.
You can wear anything, fat boots, or sandals, or as a man a skirt. Anything is allowed. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingDirections: Fabrik Kulturzentrum, Grabenstr.20. Duisburg Or visit this page.. Fabrik

In the inner harbour this Cuban style bar (also existing in Düsseldorf) is a great place which I would gladly have stayed in had the family not been very tired and the VT meeting come to and end. I am sure the romantic view of Cuba given is not to everyone's liking but well, it is the style so typical of trendy western European bars and they do it well here with cheerful staff and good cocktails. As additional bonuses you get the setting by the waterfront which is great on a warm night when you can also sit outside. Not that inside is bad either with several cosy sofas to chill out in :) Leave a Comment

I was in Duisburg for the World Games in July 2005, and this bar was 50 meters from my hotel. The weather was nice so we could sit outside. The atmosphere was really amazing, it felt like we really were in Cuba (although I've never been there). Really good cocktails and snacks. HundertMeister is one of THE IN spots in Duisburg. In a town not particularly known for clubbing, HundertMeister has gained quite a reputation, of having an interesting program, small unknown, but talented live groups, events and dances. The only drawback in the place is that it only has a capacity for about 200 people - and no parking facitlities. It is one of the view clubs that hasn't been Americanised by moving it out to one of those old warehouses in the boonies. HundertMeister is right downtown in the Dell Quarter. Sometimes they have admission, but it's relatively cheap. There are no cover charges or drink minimums, and the drinks are affordable.
Chic, but not too chic. Usually people are wearing whatever they had on when they quit work (except for construction workers). This is the sort of place you would expect to find Alley McBeal in. Incidently Wonda Shepard played here, too. Each thursday is Goth/80s/Medieval/Industrial night at the Pulp Nightclub and Restaurant. Held in a large castle full with the ambiance of a medieval castle intact with decor and furnishings ...mult-roomed normally with 3 club rooms. An 80's/new wave court, upstairs a Medieval/Goth music club room, and "The Cave" for medieval/goth/industrial/electro. The top floor was closed during this visit on 4/2/09. My favorite room was the 80's/darkwave room for dancing and flirting. Drinks were cheap and bar services excellent. As in German tradition drink cards were issued with no tipping expected as usual as found in Germany. Making drinking budget go further. A big banquet room with a buffet and fire-roasted meats were offered for bountiful plates for only a few Euro in cost. The club is open usually until 5 or 6 am. The decorations and ambiance of the club is mindblowing. Excellent DJ's, music, and selections. Apparently, Drago, the owner, turned the formerly run-down train station into a castle/fortress replica, with full decor. The venue is known as the "event castle in Duisburg". DJs : Alexx, Dirk, Franko, Mario, Robert, et al. Rating 5 stars out of 5. Leave a Comment
