Gili_S Says: While strolling around you can see many nice houses, some are old and some are new or renovated. This is another very nice white house I saw in the old city.
Gili_S Says: This is probably the most famous building here in Hattingen. At any time during the daylight when you will pass here you will see someone taken picture of this house. It is located just there in the shopping area of the old city.
Gili_S Says: The old city is the main interest here. Few churches, old jail, nice old buildings and even some old wall that used to surround the old city.

Gili_S Says: This is one of the nicest coffee houses in Hattingem where on a nice sunny day you can sit outside and enjoy coffee, cake, ice cream or beer.
Gili_S Says: This nice place located in the old city and actually combined fast food type with table service as well, which was very nice. Menu combined a German & East Asian food.

Gili_S Says: Maybe this tip can also be at the nightlife tip, but as I always visited this place during a sunny day and I was sitting at the terrace I can only say that it is a nice place to have your beer outside in the old city and relax.

Gili_S Says: This is a nice Greek restaurant in the old city. Served by the owner and its family you really get personal service here. Food was excellent, the Ouzo was on the house and there is no way you will get hungry out of this place.

There is a railway station in Hattingen, which is connected to Essen and Oberhousen by local trains. Alternative there is also a tram that can take you to Bochum. I assume that there are bus services as well, but I did not check those.

Like in many German cities the pedestrian streets are the best areas for shopping, In Hattingen it is even combined with the old city, which make it nice if you intend for window shopping only.

The local Schnitzel, it came up with tomatoes and Camembert cheese, was delicious.

Gili_S Says: Burg Isenberg CastleThis old ruins castle is located just in the outskirt of this small city at the top of the hill. To get to the castle you can take a short walk through the forest road up the hill.
