The peaceful village of Heimbach is a great starting point for the many beautiful walks through the Eifel National Park around here.

You can take a stroll across a quaint stone bridge and wander up to see the ruins of an ancient castle perched on top of a hill overlooking the town and river.

A visit to the nearby Mariawald Kloster is also worthwhile. This is a Catholic Abbey famous for it's herbal liquer that can be purchased at the gift shop.

There are also a few good restaurants, cafes and a variety of accommodation for all budgets. Just look for the sign that says 'zimmer frei" which means room vacant.

No visit to the Mariawald Kloster is complete without buying some of the sweet, strong herbal liquer that it is famous for. The liquer comes in attractive ceramic bottles and flasks.
