The Sternplatz is home to the Uncle Willi statue and his dog. The only old building is the restaurant Hulda am Markt.

Over the recent years the square has changed its apprearance a fair bit and it's still not finished. The former Sinn Leffers building which also had a café will be torn down and reconstructed (photo no. 2).

Sternplatz is located next to Rathausplatz. Sternplatz is also the place where most of the Christmas market is located in December. The fountain on Sternplatz is a good meeting point.

Uncle Willi with his dog Felix

Uncle Willi, a typical Luedenscheider original, is standing on Sternplatz (Stern square) with his dog Felix. They are watching people and generally what's going on. This bronze statue was made by Waldemar Wien.

During the past 5 years a lot of construction/reconstruction has been going on around and on Sternplatz.

This church is the oldest in Luedenscheid. It was first mentioned in 1067 and the tower is probably the oldest building in the city. It is thought that the tower orginally a castle tower and therefore a part of the defence system. In the tower traces of the defence system are still to be recognized.

    Rathaus Square

The new town hall of Lüdenscheid is not the prettiest building since it is one of those modern 60’s creation in post-war Germany. However one has made a lot of efforts to beautify the square next to the town hall with plane trees and Chinese granite.

    Wirtshaus zum Schwejk

One of the fascinating houses in the old town centre is the Wirtshaus zum Schwejk.
The building which has slightly deformed walls originates from the 17th century. On the wall it says one does not destroy what the fathers have built.

I wonder what is it there to see in this local museum. I haven't visited there as it was already late Saturday afternoon and it was closed. Maybe on my next visit. Anyhow, this museum building looks interesting.
