  • Uncle Willi with his dog Felix

    Uncle Willi, a typical Luedenscheider original, is standing on Sternplatz (Stern square) with his dog Felix. They are watching people and generally what's going on. This bronze statue was made by Waldemar Wien.During the past 5 years a lot of construction/reconstruction has been going on around and on Sternplatz.

    The old city hall (Rathaus) was built in 1872-3 and inaugurated in 1874. In 1964 it was closed again. Before closure there were two periods in which the building served as an institution for higher education.

  • Erloeserkirche

    This church is the oldest in Luedenscheid. It was first mentioned in 1067 and the tower is probably the oldest building in the city. It is thought that the tower orginally a castle tower and therefore a part of the defence system. In the tower traces of the defence system are still to be recognized.

  • Loher Wäldchen – Festival of Snow &...

    Lüdenscheid is the City of Lights and one can see the beauty of light and snow in the Loher Wäldchen with the light sculpture Memories of Wind. This outdoor exhibit was part of the Festival of Light during the winter 2005.

    Luedenscheid features a yearly Christmas market which is actually rather small but nice. It has its Gluehwein (mulled wine) stall and also Bratwurst stalls which I love.On the Rathausplatz you will find the ice rink. You can rent skates if you haven't got your own.

    Something I also learned during my visit to Lüdenscheid that the company Erco which is at home in the city manufactured the lights of the pyramid that is the centre of the Louvre in Paris today. The city of light certainly shines its light to far away places.
