We arrived here by special bus from the Mönchengladbach railway station. In your footy ticket the VRR transport region is included and therefore also the transport to the stadium. When you arrive by train in Mönchengladbach you exit the station to the back and not to the city side. There you will find all the busses lined up which bring you to the stadium.
We had a seat in the stadium. If you go in the cold season like us, make sure you bring something to put on your seat against the cold.
The mascot of Borussia Mönchengladbach is the "Fohlen" or foal which you see on the field before the match starts.
As a woman you will have the advantage of plenty of toilets which are actually surprisingly clean.
Equipment: Keep in mind that you may be searched when you enter the stadium, so don't bring anything illegal like drinks etc. You may bring your camera though which is no problem.
If there's something the Mönchengladbacher take pride in it's the Borussia, their soccer team. Although it had the best times in the Seventies, the Mönchengladbacher are still loyal fans.
The new Nordpark-Stadion is located close to the highway A 61 at Mönchengladbach.
Equipment: Good shoes if you just have a standing room and clothes for bad weather if you don't have a roofed place.
When you look for Mönchengladbach on the net, you'll mostfly find football website.
On the weekend that I was there (May 2003), there was a match against Bremen. The men went to watch the game while the girls did their thing. Borussia had to win the match and they did!
Sport Park West in Mönchengladbach was the location of yet another indoor climbing adventure for me. The climbing area in that sports center is quite small but high enough. Most of the routes are on an advanced level just a couple of beginners' routes.
May be a disappointing experience if there are too many people around, you might have to wait quite some time.
Equipment: Everything you need is there to rent, but the reception staff don't have that big a knowledge of climbing equipment. Quality seemed to be good though and staff in the climbing area are very helpful.
If you're nice to reception staff though they let you in for the student rate :-)
Mönchengladbach is of course a few hundred kilometers far from the beach. But that doesn't mean that you have to abstain from beach activities. The Return Sportpark offers beach badminton and beach volleyball indoor. Included in the charge is a sauna-visit afterwards in the two small saunas.
The whole Sportpark is very clean and has a nice atmosphere. Tennis and "normal" badminton is also possible.
Equipment: Sportclothes and the equipment for the activity you chosed (and of corse a towel for the shower and the sauna-visit afterwards :-)
