When we went to that hotel/restaurant we were greeted by the waiter in Dutch, who seemed to be confused that we are German. Well, this shouldn’t be a surprise in Germany, right? But we found that it’s basically a Dutch hotel, it even has a Dutch internet address which was written on the beer mat, and it is called “Vakantiehotel” which definitely is not German! I had thought that “De Lange Man” maybe is the local dialect, but now I rather guess it’s Dutch.
We were sitting in front of the house in the beer garden, and fortunately the pancake menu that was lying there was in German... in contrast to the drinks menu which was Dutch! The pancake was good, though. We had hearty ones, mine was with thin slices of tomato, onions, salami and olives.
As a real lover of German 'cakes & pastries' I really enjoyed getting some German "kuchen" at this cafe! The quality and service were excellent! While it is just on the main street and not on the river you can sit outside or inside.
Favorite Dish:
Obst torte -- fruit tart!
I would be VERY tempted to stay here and also eat here. The inside is charming. We went for the biergarten which is right at the edge of the Rur river! We sipped our beer with the sound of the river babbling.
Favorite Dish:
Local Pils + Weiss bier!
LOOK CAREFULLY ON THE LEFT OF THIS PICTURE AND YOU SEE THE TERRACE OVER THE RIVER -- YELLOW UMBRELLAS
Go for the view, stay for the food, beer, or strudel! We so enjoyed sitting on the terrace directly OVER the Rur with spectacular views that on our second trip we went directly to the Lutticher Hof to eat again!
Favorite Dish:
They had a daily special each time we visited which was schnitzel, our choice of sauce, soup, saled, frites (fries) and ice cream for only Euro 9.50! I LOVED their schnitzel
The area around Aachen but also southern Belgium is famous for "printen" -- a type of gingerbread! You can certainly try some here in Monschau at the Printenhaus
This is what the front of the Lutticher Hof looks like!
Favorite Dish:
Many people enjoy the struddle. I liked their full meal for only Euro 9.50
