This old stretcher is quite different to those we know by watching 'Emergency Room' on TV. It was used in 1850 in Diakonissenanstalt Kaiserswerth on the Rhine. I wonder about the cover on top. Was it used in general or only for expired / passed away Patients? I found this stretcher in the entrance of the nursing directorate / PDL...

Mettmann is a small town in the "Bergisches Land". It's the town I work in and I normally just see the same spots here ("our" villa and the local supermarket) but there's also a lovely Market Square with a big church surrounded by cute slate buildings here. The name Mettmann is a bit funny actually as the translation would be "Mince Meat Man"....

We did it as kids in the afternoon, adult-visitors do the same. The Ballet-school is in the big main-building of the Orangerie. The other door leads you to the public librairy if you want to warm up and read some intern. magazine and newspapers. This site is the place of the previous castle (16th, 17th century). The dark building was the horse's...

It seemed like everyone who came this way was heading for the ice cream shop. As we stood outside eating our tubs we'd take bets on who was gonna go into the shop and who was gonna pass by. Most people went in, even joggers, so it was easy money. These two girls had that look in their eyes - it was a dead cert they were gonna go in for ice creams....

At night there's a clock at the side of the Rhine tower. Have a look in the evening and try to figure out how it works. I understood it but I'm not telling you - it's more fun to find out yourself! Little hint: This picture was taken at 6.49 p.m., 14 seconds before 6:50 p.m.!

This is the park where the Aqua Zoo and the Japanese Gardens are located. The Japanese Gardens are rather small but quite cute, the Aqua Zoo is not really my cup of tea (too many stuffed animals and fishes). And the Nordpark is a nice place for a walk in the sun or a game of Boule.

The opposite bank has traditionally been the residence place for the wealthy people in Düsseldorf. There is not much to see in its elegant streets but from here you can see a different perspective of the Old town.
