Schieder-Schwalenberg's Folklore Festival's costume group is known as the "Trachtengilde Schwalenberg / Lippe e.V." registered as an independent association.
As of 1930, the dance and costume group started performing outside Schwalenberg with appearances in Munich, and participation in the Stuyvesant Parade in New York, U.S.A.
On the occasion of 50th anniversary in 1962, an international costume festival was organized for the first time. This event has taken place ever since at two year intervals and keeps enjoying broad national and international participation before the background of a charming medieval townscape and the scenery of a beautiful countryside.
The next festival in the timber framed town of Schwalenberg
is scheduled to take place from August 4th to August 7th , 2006
There are several trails in the woods surrounding the castle. Our group spent a couple of hours exploring (and getting our excercise!) and really enjoyed ourselves. The trees are knotted and twisty, very neat to look at, and somewhere in the woods is an old cemetery. It's very peaceful, and I'm glad I took the time to get to know the surrounding area.
