Cafe/Restaurant/Bistro Bootshaus: Lovely, and right at the Schieder lake

    by Maria250 Updated Jul 17, 2011

I do guess their food is good yet I've had mineralwater only and a glass of so called "Berliner Weisse mit Waldmeister" which tasted very, very good and fresh!! There they do the "Berliner Kindl" beer with flavor of Waldmeister (is it woodruff in English?) so perfectly like the original one, one gets in Berlin. Restaurant's staff is very friendly, and serves fast. No long wait. Restrooms are comfortable for ppl with disabilities.

  • The Old Rathaus: Spargel

by Xefian Written Jul 1, 2004

If you visit Germany in the early summer ,you'll notice the word "Spargel" everywhere...this is a type of large, white Asparagus...its Yummy...
In Schwalenberg (and across Westfalen)many of the restaurants have a "Spagelkarte" or Asparagus menu...I sampled a Spargel dish and it may have been my favorite dinner on our recent trip...served with potatoes,a salad and Westfalen Ham was quite tasty. It cost a bout 11 euro ...and with a Herforder Pils, a meal I'll remember...

You don't need to go very far for some great food!

The restaurant within the castle/hotel is wonderful! There is a giant window down one side of the dining room, and you can look down into the town. During warm weather they serve food on the patio. When you stay at the castle/hotel you receive breakfast, and it is served in the same restaurant. If you book a stay in the castle, you may have to opportunity to book a Knight's Meal. I believe it requires a specific amount of overnights, and we didn't stay long enough. It sounds like fun though!

Favorite Dish: The food, all around, was wonderful. Traditional German food was the specialty of the house, and a traditional European breakfast was served in the morning.
