Hotel Van Bebber: Having Lunch on the Street Restaurant
The restaurants of the hotel have the reputation to serve on all occasions from baptismal parties to golden wedding ceremonies.
However, the experience I made during summer time at their street restaurant was not a good one.
1. The staff was not attentive at all- despite several gestures to take the order they were involved in chatting.
2. Asking the staff to explain some dishes - they could not and shrinked their shoulders.
3. The Bernese platter (steak) was very tough
4. The Salat scampi did not have enough sauce. My request for more vinegar and oil was disputed.
5. The most accurate and polite one was the cashier!!!
Favorite Dish: Sorry - nothing - my bill was € 38.90
Soft drinks and Ice cream were ok

Located on the Main Square in Xanten is Restaurant Dalmatien . Roomy. Atmospheric. Nice Menu .
I knew what I wanted though .It was Spargel Season. That huge White Asparagas. Dalmatien has a "Spargelkarte" ...several menu items featuring this seasonal delicacy. My choice was served with
potatoes, and Ham . Cost was about 12 Euro if I remember correctly . I was well satisfied. Combine the food with an excellent Veltins Pils, and you have one happy Customer.
Cafeteria Romana: Eat and Drink Roman Style
Historical restaurant in the building of the Archaeological Park.
Waitresses and waiters are in old Roman dresses, drinks and meals are served on dishes of ancient times.
Favorite Dish: While in "Germania" table manners were still fairly rough the Romans behind the wall of the Colonia Ulpia Traiana enjoyed already culinary delights.
Famous traditional Roman meals of famous cooks such as Apicius and Terentius (under Emperor Augustus and Tiberius) can be ordered because original recipies were found.
Guest can order for small or bigger grooups and also could get dressed up in Roman dresses.

Das Gotisches Haus: Avantgarde + Medieval Charm
The oldest house in Xanten is not a museum - it's a restaurent. Actually the house was built in 1540 as a storage house for a wealthy merchant. Despite the changes in time, most of the house is still original, and has been lovely furnished, with choice antiques here and their. Classical music waives softly through the house. We were here on a Sunday, and an early dinner.
Favorite Dish: Ordering coffee is rewarding in this restaurant - it comes in cups about the size of soup bowls. If you stop here for a meal, I can recommend either the spare ribs marinated in spicy honey, or the traditional Xantener potatoe soup with chucks of ground sausage.
They also spezialize in Italian and fish dishes, like the grilled fish plate, or rice and oranges on Toskana olives with vegetable stew.

I did not try any...
...but the streets are full of places from fast food to exclusive restaurants and coffee shopes. So, maybe I should try one of them in the next time.
