"Very Modern Trains"
I was amazed how modern and clean the trains were,Panoramic windows for the views.
Getting a ticket is very easy and the trains are very punctual.
Even the train station itself was very pleasing to look at.
Inside is also the Tourist Information office, and they speak English.
You can view how much your ticket will cost on the machine before purchasing a ticket.

- Hiking and Walking
The bus trip to Altenahr depends on where you pick up the coach? we would have picked it up at Ipswich but thought better of it and got the coach at Ashford.
Money well spent ,if wed got the coach at Ipswich we would have traveled 5hrs before even getting to Ashford in Kent.
At the time we went it cost £62:00 for B&B at the Holiday Inn North Ashford, and you can leave your car for up to 4days FREE.
I have done a separate link for the Holiday Inn.
Once we got the coach at Ashford it was a 10hr Hike to Altenahr however, and it was a bit tiring, the coach driver was very good and stopped every 2hrs for a break including dinner.
The crossing was through the channel tunnel which took 35mins, my first exp on the channel tunnel , the train was very smooth.
The coach that travelscope used in this instance was Anglia Coaches.(Thanks John it was a good journey).

Ahrtalbahn (Ahr valley train)
This line was built in 1880 and is 29 km long. It has a fair few tunnels. There are hourly trains from Bonn.
In the railway station there is the tourist information center which has free maps and sells postcards.
Buses exist but are not that frequent in the valley. Better is to catch the one train an hour to/from Bonn and Remagen which take you on a pretty ride through the hills. If you buy a day ticket, you can hop around the villages as long as you bear the timetable in mind and with the train, you can of course get home even after sampling all that wine.
