even though i did not have time to see it the judenfriedhof (jewish cemetery) is worth mentioning. located on a path just above the burg metternich it was the burial place for beilstein's jews for over 700 years. in 1840 30% of beilstein's population was jewish. during the nazi regime all of the jews of beilstein were evicted and none of them ever returned.

the village of beilstein has a wonderful collection of half timbered buildings. almost every building in town is a guesthouse, restaurant, winerie, or shop. even though it is very touristy it is a charming village to explore. you can see the whole town in an hour.

the large white building in the picture is beilstein monastery. today only one monk lives there. it is open to the public and has a restaurant. from the center of town you take the klostertreppe (a narrow flight of stairs) from furst-metternich strasse to the monastery.

Along Mosel river there are some places where one can take boats to the other side of river. Beistein is one of them. By measuring by eyes the width of Mosel is perhaps 200-300 M?! Anyway, not only people, but also autos can take boats, very convenient.
