Not only the cuisine was outstanding and very refined, also the restaurant itself was very nice with beautiful table decoration and fine table linens.
They also offer à la carte meals and the restaurant is open to non-residents also. Prices were around 30 euro for a 3-course à la carte dinner (excl. wines).
There was not one dish I didn't like. From the spinach soup, over the pike-perch fillet in rucola sauce, to the fillet of deer ... everything was just delicious. Not your usual German cuisine!
Their wine list is huge: dry/medium/sweet whites, dry/medium/sweet reds,Eiswein, liquors, ... Quick lunch: a beer (Bitburger) and an apfelschorle (mix of mineral water and apple juice). A well filled sandwich and a Mosel-Toast (ham and peach on toast with melted cheese). A tomatosoup with whipped cream and a goulash soup.
All quick and quite delicious. We paid about 18 euro for 2 persons.
When I went to the toilet I found inside the most wonderful cakes. Pity I didn't see them before. "Burgschenke" is the traditional name, although it should rather read "BurgschÄnke" today.
This restaurant is open daily 09.00a.m. - 06.00p.m.
between mid of march and beginning of November
The menu is rather restricted to Goulasch-soup, sausages, cakes and coffee and ice-cream of course.
The best thing is certainly the perfect view on the eastern part of the Mosel-valley and the village of Cochem. From the garden-restaurant you will have a perfect view on the castle and the surrounding vinyards .
The choice of food and drinks is a lot larger in Schlossbergterasse than it is in the restaurant of the castle, called "Burgschenke". Also the prices are quite low ! This cafe depends totally on the weather-situation, so they had just 1 waiter for the whole cafe, and he was running up and down the steps to the tables quite quickly, BUT still he needed quite a long time to bring my order. But of course I mainly came to enjoy the perfect view and did not care a lot about the speed of the service.
I had a strawberry-coup with icecream and really enjoyed it. This is certainly a good place for people who have a lot of time. I had an excellent lunch there with great food and perfect service, although the restaurant was quite full.
They also have a terrace, facing the street and the cable-car.
I had turkey-breast with mushrooms, cheese-sauce and roasted potatoes. It was served in a pan and was really delicious !!
