When you are in Cochem around midday to early afternoon, it might be difficult to make good photo's of the castle (Reichsburg) because of the sun being directly behind it. This also goes for the cablecar (Sesselbahn).
Fun Alternatives: Make your photo's early morning or later in the afternoon.
Here 2 photo's that didn't turn out that well although the view (from Kapuzinerberg) was excellent.

For those that know England think a cross between Clovelly and Ambleside. Cochem centre is snowed under with cheap handbag shops, china knick- knacks, racks of bargain clothes and sugary ice cream parlours. The toilets are scruffy and not very clean and cost 30 cents to use. There are lots of school parties trailing through clutching clip boards and looking bored. After 6-30 when the day trippers go everything closes except a couple of cafes. The reason why theres no nightlife reviews is because there isnt any! The only bars were rather seedy and empty even at 9 o'clock on Friday! Other places along this stretch of the Mosel are much the same...Beilstein looks even worse.
Unique Suggestions: Walk up to the Castle and look at the views and then go down the back way (turn left as you get to the first car park.
Get right out of the valley and walk up into the pleasant contryside through lots of woods and watch the butterflies and buzzards. A good walk is from Cond to Beilstein, about 15 km and theres a nice cafe at Schuwerackerhof. ...you can come back on the trip boat. (if you dont mind paying 10 euros single- Its 12 return!) We didnt try it but taking a bike and using the cycle path along the river looks fun.
Fun Alternatives: Stay in Koblenz and tour from there. Its civilised, interesting and has good transport links.
