Walk this way, only 15 more minutes ; ) by JAFA-Rease May be stretching a bit calling this a transportation tip... However, as you wander around old Cochem you will find signs like the one shown here. If you follow them they will lead you on a walk to the castle. Warning: It's a steep walk on a warm summer day... Along the Mosel where the riverboats dock, you can hire a bicycle. Not necessarily to explore Cochem because that's done best on foot. But all along the Mosel are cycling paths and you see many people of all ages doing that. A day's hire (24 hours) costs 8 euro (2007). To hire you need to show your ID and pay 20 euro deposit per bicycle. Fahrrad = bicycle in German Fahrradverleih = bicycle hire Leave a Comment Theme: BicyclePhone: +49 2671980023

the train-station in Cochem by globetrott Unlike the Rhine-valley the train will mostly just go on the left bank of the river Mosel / Moselle. In Cochem it will even go a big part inside a tunnel, so you might sleep a lot better than in other small villages along the river, where the train will run directely through the villages. From the trainstation you may take the bus to get to most of the villages along the Mosel-valley, that have no train-connection. For more details and departure-times, please have a look on my link below ! The trainstation of Cochem is at the east-end of the village, about 500 meters from the bridge across the river. the chairlift to the Pinnerkreuz. by globetrott Pinnerkreuz is a mountain opposite of the beautiful castle of Cochem and from there you may enjoy the very best view of the castle, the Mosel-valley and its surroundings. On top of the mountain you may take several hiking-paths or spend some time in the restaurant with a perfect view on the castle. The tickets for the chairlift are 4 Euros one-way or 5,50 Euros return. Almost on the very top you will be asked by a charming lady, whether you like to have a picture taken from you. When you are back in the valley again, you will get 2 different postcards with you on the lift and the castle of Cochem in the background for a total of 7 Euros. When you click on my picture, you may see the castle between the cables. The chairlift is operated between easter and mid-november 09.30a.m. - 06.30p.m. The lift is in Endertstrasse 44 you simply follow the street next to the Mosel-bridge to the north. Map route to castle Cochem by ATLC Park your car somewhere along the Mosel. About the nearest would be Oberer Weg, paralel to the Mosel promenade. If you park along the Mosel in this area, the parking is free. Or it would cost you 80 eurocent per hour (Oberer weg). Then you walk through the 1st gate which is Martinstor. This is a bit of a climb. Between Martinstor and Rochuskapelle it gets even steeper. After the chapel you go down a bit to the little tiny Maria chapel (not on the map) and from there some steps up to the castle. When you arrive above you'll see a parking space on your left for only about 20 cars. This takes you about 15 minutes on foot and quite a bit of panting! See the map. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

ships on the river Mosel / Moselle by globetrott Cochem will always be a port of call on any cruise from Bernkastel-Kues or from Koblenz, and many cruises will also start from Cochem every day - for prices and timetables, just see my link below ! The pier for the cruiseships will be in the very centre of town, next to the beautiful boulevard with plenty of great restaurants and cafes. On my picture you may see , that the river Mosel / Moselle is also an important way of transportation for huge cargo-ships between the river Rhine and Moselle-ports in France. Leave a Comment

the special parking fro motorhomes in Cochem by globetrott The closer you get to the centre of Cochem, the harder and more expensive will it get to park your car. The parking on my picture is at the west-end of the city (in direction to Bernkastel) and it is ment only for motorhomes. You may park there day and night, but you have to pay each and every hour, while at other places you pay just during the day 09.00a.m. - 07.00p.m. When arriving from direction Koblenz you will see lots of good parking-lots along the street totally free of charge in a distance of 500 meters to the Mosel-bridge. That is certainly the best choice to park your car or motorhome, especially when you arrive in the morning and intend to stay most of the day. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Cochem by ATLC It's called Panorama Bahn and a ride takes about 25 minutes. You can discover Cochem instead of walking and climbing :-) You can simply buy a ticket with the driver. Price: 4,70 euro (adult), 2,70 euro (children up to 12). And adults get a glass of Mosel wine! You can get onto the Panorama Bahn near the bridge. Prices: 2007 Leave a Comment Theme: Train

As I said somewhere else on this page, parking is busy here but possible. Either park along the Mosel if you find a spot. Or go to the parking garage in Endertstrasse. We parked twice in Cochem. Once dead center near the bridge on Bockbrunnerplatz (parallel to the Moselpromenade) where we paid 2 euro for 2 hours (which is the max. time you can park here) . We came back after about 2 hours, filled up the meter (photo 2) and went to do the cablecar ride. Then for our castle visit we drove back, direction Trier, and parked for 80 eurocent per hour (but we could park there for 10 hours max.). That's photo 1. So you see, there are differences in price and parking time, depending where you park the car. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Cochem by ATLC Cochem has a train station. From there it is a very short walk to the center. Or you can take a shuttle bus to the castle (also a short ride). There's also plenty of parking space near the train station. For all info about trains in Germany, you can use the website below. Oh, and... don't forget to send a postcard home! Leave a Comment
