An interesting and lovely old building indeed...a traditional workers' house, apparently, though I suspect more than one family lived there in the past. Or it was once two separate houses.
With lots of separate rooms, fascinating furnichings and pictures, narrow curving stairway, and a small terrace looking out over the rooftops.
Wine and coffee and cake and ice-cream as well as meals.
Very pleasant place for a break half-way round the wall-walk.
I thought this place was lovely.
On the Marktplatz, opposite the Rathaus, offering excellent wines and traditional food, well-cooked and at reasonable prices.
I just had the Bratkartoffeln (fried potatoes) as a snack, with speck. Delicious. My companion had a special cheese dish.....Weinkase?
And we had wine, of course. My Portugieser Weißherbst was a gorgeous fruit rose wine (nothing to do with Portugal, it's the grape variety!.
They have a courtyard with simple tables, and rooms inside too...have a look at their website.
And they do 'kafe und kuchen' as well!
Definitely a good place for a rest, a snack, a drink or a full meal.
Highly recommended (as is Freinsheim itself).
......as you walk around the walls.
There are lots of odd things to notice, including old farm implements hung in random corners.
Little places for shrine statues.
Floors layered with ?straw? (for insulation?).
The tiniest house one could imagine.
And lots more........
