During the summertime there is a chairlift from the river Rhine to Festung Ehrenbreitstein, the distance is not so very far , but why not trying to save some time and energy instead of hiking uphill. Especially when coming down again, you may enjoy a great view of Deutsches Eck and the rest of Koblenz with the rivers Mosel and Rhine.
The chairlift is operated from easter till end of may
and Sep + Oct : from 10.00a.m. till 05.00p.m.
From July till September : 09.00a.m. - 05.50p.m.
