The discovery of old unexploded WW2 bombs is quite common in Germany and other areas of Europe. In 1997 a 2.2ton British bomb was found in Ludwigshafen.

The area was cleared of 26,000 people which was the biggest evaculation in Germany for a leftover WW2 bomb.
