It is easy to travel to the Ahr valley by train from Bonn and Remagen and you can even buy a day card to hop on and off the trains which run once every hour. Great if you are wine tasting and don't drive! The train journey is quite spectacular with all the hills around you.
The valley is also popular with cyclists. There are no parking problems that way and it keeps you fit, but don't drive while drunk.
There are hourly trains from and to Bonn. They are slow trains stopping in all the villages along the valley. It is possible to do village hopping by train or alternatively by the infrequent bus.
This horse drawn carriage is not running all the time but during wine festivals. It can also be rented for special occasions.
