in the region around the Laacher See, lives of its volcanic past. the lava output done wonders for the region. a fertile soil gives exceptional crop, weat, potatoes, canola, barley and the gardens are packed with fruittrees, everything just grows healthy and plentyful.
and the land gives also good building material, the lava, called Bims here, made many farmers who started to mine the porous ash, very rich.
the Village, the Forest and the Lake, that's what I wanted to convey in my tips, then I found the map from the web,showing the recreational value of this area.
we kids run through the forest, every day in our school holidays, the sec. dotted red line, around 1 1/2 hour it took, running. or you have an easy walk of around 2 hours. of course on ya bike you make it much faster.

the forest around the Village is of high recreational value, walking or biking for the whole Family. the walkways well maintained and signposted these days, I remember more density of the forest those days and one had to be careful not to get lost
