The old Wine Crane here in Oestrich-Winkel is quite an icon.
Years ago it was used to help in the loading of many goods to be transported on the river.
Do stop, have a look and take the time to wander along the foreshore a bit.

I found this tip on Globetrott's page so thought I would share our story. Having read Michael's tip I saved it and thought we would do lunch here.
Well I can confidently say that it was worth it. The beer garden was quaint and surrounded by lovely vines and flowers. The service was excellant and the atmosphere was cosy and welcoming.
I would definately recommend to visit here.

Doesn't matter where you do it, but please take a break from your journey, get out for a bit of fresh air and wander along the foreshore of the Rhine River.
Always a nice thing to do just before lunch to build up your appetite and thirst :o)

If you are driving along the Rhine River, then do not miss this cute Castle.
We viewed it from the Oestrich-Winkel side of the river but it is closest to the Bingen side.
The Castle is built on a island in the middle of the Rhine River and has an interesting story behind the name. Please check out my travelogue here for the full story.
