The little town of Bernkastle is not to be missed when visiting this area. The town is so German, you almost taste the dark beer and viennerschnitzel the minute you enter. The buildings seem to be miniature and right in the middle of town is a beer garden. It is a tiny two-story house, crooked from age. Through the windows, we could see people packed in, raising their beer steins to all outside as an invitation to a great time! The cobblestone streets, which of course, are indigenous to all of Germany, Europe even, invite you to stroll among the many shops, looking for souveniers. Or find a table at an outdoor cafe and sit with a dark beer to people-watch!
A trip to Germany and the Saar valley region would not be complete without a visit to Burg Eltz. To reach the castle, you must circle the mountain many times. Upon reaching the top, Burg Eltz stands out like a beacon, with it's high stone walls and copper dragon water spouts.
