Beware of this so-called waitress

Conterfeit waitess

I always thought that the Germans were renowned for their efficiency. Well not the Cafe Schlosser on the main street. This waitess (see photo) took my order, then I waited. And waited. And waited. After 45 minutes the cafe claimed the order had never even been recieved.

All the others waiters and waitesess seem to bring out the orders to their customers without a problem - and it looked pretty good too.

Beware of the waitess - If owned the place I would give her the sack.

Ticket vending machines

Be aware that Speyer has only a small railway station which means two ticket counters and at holidays, these tend to be closed, leaving you to battle it out with the ticket vending machines, dreaded even amongst the Germans themselves. They DO work, but bear in mind that here you have a DB machine and a local transport machine and if all you want is to go to Mannheim with the S-train to get to the mainline railways, then you can often not buy tickets from the DB machine so head for the local one at once. Also be aware that these machines do accept cards but that you need to have very "un-damaged" cards. The slightest "cash machine made it wobbly" cards and it won't accept them.

Bollards

Strolling across the Domplatz, be aware that cars can come at you at quite some speed. What you think is a cobbled square to walk across in fact includes a street and there is no elevated pavement or anything to show you this, just stone bollards to direct traffic into the narrow lane.

You will most probably need the whole day in the Technik-Museum in order to see everything and really enjoy it.
When you enter the Technik Museum in Speyer, you have the choice to buy a combination ticket for the IMAX-cinema + the Museum.
You may see the films in The IMAX at reduced prices, BUT you have to choose a fixed time, when you are going to watch the films.
Only when you arrive in the very morning you still have a good choice of tickets for the IMAX, that has also performances AFTER the museum is closed already !!!
These tickets will be gone first of course.
So be there in the morning or simply skip the IMAX at all...
