Cycling along the river
Cycling can be done by people of almost all ages and is certainly very popular because the Mosel valley is reasonably flat. I've noticed bicycle hire (Fahrrad Verleih) in just about every Mosel town. Often, hotels loan or rent them out as well.
I've seen scooters on hire as well.
There are cycling paths along the Mosel valley. Sometimes the route takes you on a cycling path directly next to the road, but mostly it's separate below the road, nearer to the river. The cycling paths looked well kept and easy. You can't get lost, after all... you're following the river!
This is also a great way to explore the Mosel, simply backpacking with a bike. There are village every 25 kms or so (sometimes closer) and all offer accommodation like hotels or B&B (see the signs like Gästezimmer or Zimmer Frei).
Equipment: The route description is from the address mentioned below (Zwierad Wagner).
Two other cycle rent addresses in Traben-Trarbach:
- Mittelmosel-Museum, Moselstr./Enkircher Str.
- Camphausen (Wolf), Kogelherrenstra ße 7, Tel. 06541 - 3276
At the link below, you will find a long list of cycling rental addresses all along the Mosel.
Wellness center Hotel Bellevue
Well, here I go again, gushing about the hotel we stayed in. As guest of the hotel you can enjoy free use of swimming pool, steam room, sauna, rain shower, trepidarium, solarium, relaxation room. Open every day from 7 am to 11 pm.
Equipment: Robes and towels are all provided by the hotel (already in the room). You only need swimwear unless you're comfortable naked.
- Spa and Resort
Well peeps, I walked and walked in Traben-Trarbach. Not that it's so large. But rather because 2 of the Jugendstil highlights were quite way off the map that was in the brochure. So I'm not very sportive and that really was quite some walk all the way to Bad Wildstein.
Some of you may laugh. Yep, it isn't that far. We started walking the Jugendstil walk at 10.00 in the morning and never stopped until 14 hrs.
Equipment: Good shoes and some rain gear.
- Hiking and Walking
Hiking, rowing, ....
We hiked from Bernkastel to Traben Trarbach. First we had to climb up the mountain through the vineyards. It was so steep. ... Uuuf....Then there was a nice path through the forest and when leaving the forest, we saw Traben-Trarbach down in the valley.
Equipment: There are lots of other possibilities to do sport, especially on the Mosel: canoes, rowing, ....
- Family Travel
Traben-Trarbach is the first mini-golf in Germany since 1955.
Equipment: Just wear casual, bring water, sunblock lotion and camera.
