The pedestrian area of Trier is of course in the historical centre of the city and it is very lively at the beginning of the night; many people (mainly tourists) walk around, the atmosphere is cool, and looking at the coloured, baroque half timbered houses, the well lit towers of the churches, having a drink at the terrace of a pub is a quite nice thing to do in Trier.
The bell tower of St Gangolph (main picture) dominates the market place, but the towers of the cathedral in a back street are more impressive (picture 2); the arch of a side entrance of the cathedral (picture 3) looks wonderful at night, with all the statues, in a symmetrical composition; but after the religious buildings, you may pass by a half timbered house with a “Mephisto” sign (picture 4), and we finished our walk at the Porta Nigra (picture 5), of course!

If you are thirsty and craving some good Irish stout in same alley as McD in the city center you will find an Irish pub where you can quench your thirst.

The uniquely named "Irish Pub" in Trier was our favorite spot for nightlife when we lived in the area. Not only did it have great beer, including Guinness and Kilkenny, but they usually had live music at the small stage in the back of the restaurant area. Usually the performer was a single singer with a guitar, or at biggest a duo, but it was always entertaining. The place usually filled up with a friendly crowd from all over Europe and the US on the weekends.

This is very typical Irish pub. It is located in very centre, has live music every night and offers typical Irish pub refreshments for fairly high price. The good news is that it was very crowded also on those nights when there were people in no other places of the town. This place is very popular among Americans, who are plenty in the Trier area because their airbase is quite nearby. The base is the largest US army base in the world outside US!

When in Trier, you must go to the Forum. This one is the most popular club in Trier. It is a dance club that plays hip-hop on friday nights and house on saturday nights.
I recommend friday nights. It gets quite crowded in there.

Centrally located, expensive looking bar that has was fully crowded at least on Friday evening. The people consisted mainly of local yuippies, who did not seem to be overfriendly towards us tourists. Expensive drinks.
On Saturdays and Sundays there is breafast buffet for 4,90e (10:00-15:00), but the selection did not look so promising so we decided to go to Subways anyway..
They won't throw you out by your clothing, but you won't fit in with jeans and sneakers. Wearing a suit is not a mistake here. Leave a Comment

The typical Irish Pub, in the heart of Trier. If you have the need to show off your Irish accent or the queen's english is calling your name, this is the place for you. There is plenty of Guiness and Kilkenny there for all your buddies,and, by the way, the place is frequented by Americans........

Cafe/bar with high standards and style. Expensive prices, favoured by businessmen and yuippees. Wooden chairs were not very comfortable, but the toilettes with comforting music were sights themselves. Service was very friendly!
