Here is a typical walking tour of Trier. I have taken many first-time visitors to the city on this tour. The entire tour covers a route of about two kilometers, so it could be easily walked in just 30 minutes. With stops and tours at the major landmarks, you could easily spend half a day on this walking tour. 1. Porta Nigra -- ancient city gates and former church 2. Walkplatz -- wander through the shopping and restaurant area of Trier (Simeonstrasse) 3. Main Market Square -- See the Market Cross, St Peters Fountain, and the great architecture. Good place to stop for a meal or a beer. 4. Turn left to approach the Dom. 5. Dom -- ancient cathedral of Trier, built beginning in the 11th Century. 6. Liebfrauenkirche -- Begun in 1235, it is a much more beautiful cathedral than the Dom, especially the stained glass on a sunny afternoon. 7. Continue down Liebenfrauenstrasse toward the Basilica. 8. Constantine's Basilica -- one room of a massive Roman palace from the 100s AD. 9. Electoral Palace -- garish pink building attached to the Basilica in the 1700s. 10. Palace Gardens & the old city wall -- The gardens were put in place after WWII, but the wall remains from the middle ages. 11. Imperial Baths -- Roman ruins from Constantine's era (4th Century). 12. Roman Amphitheater -- The oldest existing structure in Trier. It was built in 100 AD. It was constructed to hold 20,000 spectators! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

FRA by Kristina1701 If you're from an European country, then it would probably be best to fly into Luxemburg. Their airport is about 30 minutes from Trier by car. If you're from overseas it might be better to fly into Frankfurt/Main and either to go on by train from there or by car. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

"Without changing trains you can comfortably travel to Trier directly by rail from many German cities in the modern InterCity trains. More information about trains in Germany, timetable and reservations: Deutsche Bahn AG Future meets history: With the ICE from Berlin via Hannover, Duesseldorf, Cologne (Koeln), Koblenz directly to Trier!" Typical German "fachwerk" houses by Pavlik_NL Best to be reached by car, although train also gives some possibilities. Busses connect the mayor touristic sights and within the old town the distances are easy to be crossed by foot. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

by Wiktoria Here we are stopping at the gas station to ask for directions. It was late at night when we were coming back to Giessen from Trier and we got a little bit lost. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

by voyageur2 Luxembourg is close to Trier. You can reach by train less than 1 hour from Luxembourg Central Railway Staion. There are bus connection between Station and Airport. Another option should be motorway. From eastern direction, you can land to Frankfurt Airport, than get the train to Trier. Leave a Comment Theme: Train

We came by car and parked in a public parking place. Since we only had a short time...we took the ROEMER-EXPRESS Tours with a sightseeing train starting from the PORTA NIGRA. It was only 10 DM and we got to see most sights within an hour or two (good since we were on the road). It runs every day from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. (about every 25 minutes with two trains). Moseele scene by sandysmith We took the train to Trier as we were staying in the Rhine area. Got great views of the Moselle from the train window and cruising down here would be a leisurely way to arrive at Trier, seeing yet more castles on the way. Theme: Train
