Favorite thing: Make a trip to the SAECHSISCHE SCHWEIZ (Saxonian Switzerland)or another name is 'Elbsandsteingebirge'. This is an area with mointains and rocks near from Dresden which is very popular and beautiful for hiking, climbing, biking or just enjoy the nature. The special kind of stone is sandstone. Another and more relaxing possibility to enjoy the 'Saechsische Schweiz' is to make a trip with the old paddle-steamers on the river Elbe. You will have a fascinating view! I can recommend to hike to the BASTEI', FESTUNG KOENIGSTEIN,LILIENSTEIN and I am sure that you will find other good aims for hiking!

Fondest memory: If you like to go out of Dresden and discover the surroundings, Rathen in 'Saxon Switzerland' would be a good try. You get there by S-Bahn from the main- or Neustadt station or from Bad Schandau (if you are on your way from Praha to Dresden you can stop there). The station to get off is named 'Kurort Rathen', then you have to take the ferry across the river 'Elbe'. There are beautiful sights from the mountain top, as you can see on the picture, I will put in there tomorrow - it is really worth climbing them. There are several ways to the Bastei (on top), my favourite is one that leads through a narrow ravine. To find this way you have to go straight through the village in the valley until the end of the street, then turn left. (I know this is rather vague, but just try it, you really can't miss the Bastei. It is a real tourist spot). You can also just walk around the area, it is nice all over the place. There are also many very well known spots for freeclimbing.
