This is a typical microbrewery with restaurant like you will find them all over Germany. Hearty, simple food like knuckle of pork with sauerkraut, tasty beer, live music (and not only oompah, but also Dixie Jazz, Boogie-Woogie etc.) and rustic ambience attract a very mixed crowd of students, tourists, locals. Specials on most days.
The have large rooms inside where you also see the tanks with the beer. My favourite place is the terrace, though, because from there you have beautiful views of the city.
Favorite Dish: I went on Wednesday, which is Schnitzel Day, so had a delicious HUGE Schnitzel with veggies and potatoes and a half litre of their tasty beer for only 8.88 Euro - a steal.

If you're looking for a romantic getaway (rooms available), for fine cuisine that uses lots of herbs and only fresh ingredients, for cosy ambience in green setting, then this is a place for you. The restaurant is located where the residential areas meet the Dresden Heath, easily accessible by car or a 10-minutes walk from the tram stop (#11) Wilhelminenstraße (signposted - König-Albert-Park).
The history of the Fischhaus goes back to 1573 when Dresden's Augustine monks got their fresh water from this place, and also had their fish farm here.
The building was reconstructed a couple of times but kept its cosy, romantic ambience with open fireplace, wood panels etc. In summer you may prefer to sit outside on their lovely terrace, surrounded by the herbal gardens and the woods.
Favorite Dish: I was there twice, both times the food was yummy. I remember that I had tuna with risotto in a delicious sauce that was made with burnet saxifrage (?), freshly squeezed orange juice and a dessert. Sorry, cannot remember what I had the other time - some meat, but not sure what exactly.

This restaurant (it's not just a cafe, unlike the name indicates) is a welcome oasis in the busy city - located at the eastern end of one of the most beautiful gardens in Dresden, right by the Elbe river (cycling trail), this has become a favourite spot of walkers, cyclers, families from the neighbouring Neustadt district and employees from the offices nearby.
The wait staff is friendly but tends to be a bit slow (and forgetful) sometimes.
Favorite Dish: Their ice-cream is fantastic! Some of the best I've ever had (also sale on-the-go). They have special lunch offers on weekdays for 6 Euro or so - a good deal. Otherwise they mostly serve salads and pasta. Nothing better than relaxing here on a sunny day, sipping a glass of wine!

Out of the three castles that sit on the hill above the Elbe river on the Neustadt side (right bank) the central one has the most frequented restaurants - "Lingnerterrassen" are named after the guy from whom the municipality inherited the property from, August Lingner. The castle is still undergoing restoration (makes good progress, tours are offered) but two very different types of places are open already: One is a beer garden, the other is a more upscale restaurant.
Both places have one thing in common: The stunning views of the river, the city and on nice days the mountains (Erzgebirge and Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland) in the distance.
Favorite Dish: The beer garden offers the usual kind of food: beer and other beverages, simple but hearty food (Bratwurst, potato salad etc.) but also coffee and cake. Everything is yummy and quite inexpensive. Self service, of course.
The more upscale restaurant is located in the eastern wing of the castle and also has tables out on the terrace. Service is very good, don't exactly remember what I had but the food was delicious. Expect the main dish to be in the 12-18 Euro price range - not too expensive IMO given the quality (and most of it is organic!)

The restaurant is located in a neo-gothic castle (5star hotel) with a terrace in a beautiful garden overlooking the city, the river etc. It is definitely a gourmet restaurant providing excellent food (specialties from Alsace since this is the chef's home).
Ambience is really fancy, service is impeccable. They often host events/weddings/small conferences etc. so inquire in advance if they're open.
Favorite Dish: Since it is a gourmet restaurant you should expect high prices. My recommendation is to go there on a weekday and have a business-lunch. Three courses, usually choice of the main course (fish, meat or vegetarian).
Another option: Have coffee and cake on their wonderful terrace or in the beautiful garden.

We went here twice; once with German_Eagle, the best VT ambassador for VT in the city. He lives here, so takes in the restaurants a lot. This is one of his favorites. Prices range from 10-20 Euro, and typical plate is 12 Euro.
Favorite Dish: I had aspic one night and it was good. Another night ordered a pork dish, but they were out of a lot of items. The others had ravioli. Once they sell out, that is it for the night.

It was at best okay. We had pizzas and they were served on flat bread and not very much taste, as well as not much to eat. This is the only place in Hellerau to eat, so tourists and locals that come to see the complex stop here and take in the only place available. With that, they have a rather steep price on the menu items. Prices range from 8-12 for lunch, and then the beer is 5 Euro for a 1/2 liter.
Favorite Dish: Not sure I could pick one, if at all; but maybe the small bowl of mushroom soup was okay.

The food was fantastic, and that is the good thing to search out a local German family that has a small place and take pride in serving the best. Prices for the plates were 8,50 and beer 3,50 for 1/2 liter
Favorite Dish: The schnitzel was possibly the best I have tasted in years and sampled many. Mushrooms enhanced the taste

The food was okay and worth coming here since there is not much else around the castle area. Down the street a bit is a pizza place, but after that it gets scarce to find a place, except for a tourist drop off right at the castle path to the entrance.
Favorite Dish: The plate of pork was good, and gravy on top topped it off along with the usual kraut and dumpling. Beer was 1/2 liter for 4,50

The food is good basic German with the items being on the go wurst of many types, ham shank, fries, and soups. Wurst prices are about 3,50 Euro range and beer 3,50 for 1/2 liter.
Even though the Lingner castle inside is still closed, this cafe outdoors is open and had a full crowd at 3PM. Apparently a lot of people come here after getting off work to visit and sample foods.
Favorite Dish: I had a great brautwurst and kraut on the side with fires. It was all good and lasted til the evening dinner
