It was pretty good food, and there was a large menu to choose from. Beer is 4,00 Euro for 1/2 liter
Favorite Dish: I had wurst and kraut one day and another had the roasted pork. Both were tasty, but they could have served more of it. The portions are not real big. A lot of people come her to sit down and rest from all the site seeing; as did we. They order a minimal like maybe a coffee. Missing the other items is too bad.
They have a large seating area outside and on nice days, it is worth sitting there. The inside and keller are very large, and if I came back would take in the atmosphere down there.

The food was all very good, and the atmosphere wonderful. It is one of two restaurants in the city that serve typical German fare, and daily have a menu board for specials of the day. Beer is pretty reasonable also, and 3,50 for 1/2 liter
Favorite Dish: The ham shank was my favorite, but always is. It had a crisp cover on it, and well done inside. It came with a load of kraut

The food was fantastic, and there was plenty of it. Overall, I would rate this as one of the better and more quiet places to eat in the city, combined with a pleasant atmosphere on Hauptstrasse. The lunch prices for the plates were 8,50. They have an outdoor section with umbrellas, but we ate inside due to cool weather.
Favorite Dish: The sauerbraten was excellent and made just like you would expect when in the country. I am not a fan of the dumplings (they are chewy and doughy), but the sauerkraut was just right and the meat good. The pork marinated was also very good.
The other favorite was the full liter of beer for $5,50

I agree with ATLC about Schillergarten; I have eaten there with german_eagle
I have also eaten in the restaurant of the Staatsschauspielhaus in Theaterstr as well as in the Kulturpalast, and both were perfectly adequate
However, my latest visit to Dresden was in 2005, so places may have changed
Nice environment

Spotted this brewpub on our travels around the city earlier in the day, so returned for an evening meal, and a few beers of course!
Anyway it's a comfortable place, lots of outdoor seating too. Interesting menu, both had flammkuchen, similar to thin pizza - excellent. Beer pretty good as well, good place to visit.

It is a very nice small place with a friendly climate and good service. As far as in Dresden there are some problems with good and not very expensive sushi, I was really glad to find this restaurant.
Favorite Dish: Sushi, of course :)

Pulverturm an der Frauenkirche is another garden-restaurant that I tried once for lunch, because their garden-restaurant is a lot more informal than Coselpalais, although they are inside the same building.
The restaurant inside looks also great with old vaults, and they have different small rooms - see their webpage below !
But on a hot summerday it is great to sit outside under the umbrella and dine with a cannon...
There stood once an old powder-tower (Pulverturm) that was taken away in order to be able to build Coselpalais.
The cannon shown on my picture is a replica of a cannon used by saxons in 1686 with a calibre of 24 pounds and a pipe-length of 2,46meters.
The diameter of the muzzle is 15,1 cm
The Saxon army had 72 of such cannons !
Favorite Dish: I had a salad with fillet of turkey, I do not remember the price, but it was about average for Dresden and a lot cheaper than Coselpalais in the same building, but facing the other side.

As the name indicates this place is a sort of Bavarian enclave in Dresden. They serve Bavarian specialties like Obatzter, Weißwurst, Leberkäse and of course all sorts of Paulaner beer, brewed in Munich.
The ambience is typical Bavarian "gemütlich", much dark wood, the service friendly and attentive. There is a vaulted room in the basement also that is open in the evenings - perfect for small groups. Usually the place is packed - there are not many tables in the Paulaner's and I recommend a reservation. On warm summer days it is a nice to sit outdoor in the shade with view of the Royal Palace.
Favorite Dish: On several occasions I had full meals like pork roast with dumplings (good) and also just a "Brotzeit" which means sorts of cold cuts, sausages, bread, mustard and pickled onions etc. (very good) but also the Bavarian specialties. Honestly, I am not particularly fond of the heavy Bavarian good but I think anyone who is will *love* this place. And the beer is always yummy ;-)

Restaurant Alte Meister was opened in 2001 in the former atelier of sculptor Albert Braun who supervised the reconstruction of the Zwinger and the Old Masters Gallery building after WWII. The vaulted dining room is beautiful with high ceiling, pillars and relics of the frescos here and there.
This restaurant has two very different faces: During the day it is a sort of bistro-cafe where the tourists gather for coffee and cake or a quick lunch, either inside or on the terrace with gorgeous view of opera house, cathedral and royal palace. In the evenings the ambience changes totally: white tablecloth, candles, beautiful silverware - very festive.
Service is impeccable. The food turns toward gourmet cuisine in the evenings with according prices - but still affordable. The wine list is excellent. It's the perfect place to have a meal before or after opera.
Favorite Dish: I've had meals here many times, often before or after a performance at the opera house or a theatre nearby.
I *love* their baked goat cheese with tomato chutney and basil. Lamb rack is always yummy. The desserts are absolutely delicious. As for wine - they use to have an excellent selection of Saxon wine from the Proschwitz winery. Yum.

I cannot recall how often I ate here with friends or family. Schillergarten is your typical neighbourhood hangout place with hearty, delicious food, generous portions, nothing fancy but excellent quality. They serve regional/German food, have a nice wine list and yummy beer. The service is always very good.
The location right next to the Blue Wonder bridge and right by the Elbe river is fantastic. In summer you can sit in their self-service beergarden under the trees or on the terrace with service, both with view of the river, or you have a table inside where you can choose the cosy room with dark wood panels or the wintergarden with view of the bridge. For the latter make reservations at least a week in advance, especially for dinner hours.
Favorite Dish: I've had too many dishes to recall them all. When visiting in the afternoon - their cakes are very good, especially the fancy "Haustorte", I like the tea a lot and their coffee is also excellent, be it Wiener Melange or Latte Macchiato.
The standard list aside they always have a daily changing menu list as well - fresh and according to the season/day. I often pick from the daily menu - asparagus in spring (yummy!), venison in fall (delicious). Specialties are the giant Viennese Schnitzel (yes, it's veal) and the potato soup e.g. I've never been disappointed.
