This is one of the best Italian restaurants I know, and not only in Dresden. The place doesn't have a lot of tables, so reservation is highly recommended, especially Fri/Sat. I've had meals here many times - celebrating birthdays or victories with the tennis team, quick meal before hitting the clubs, just by myself or romantic dinners - and I'd been disappointed only once, on a night in August a few years ago when probably the owners were on vacation back home and the staff was students, hired for just two weeks or so.
The ambience is exactly like you would expect in a southern Italian restaurant: familiar, welcoming, a bit theatric sometimes, always busy and a bit noisy from the chatter around you. The food is excellent (trust the recommendations of your waiter), the wine is yummy, the service impeccable.
Prices are still reasonable. The guests are mostly locals but occasionally I spotted some tourists.
An addition of not too long ago is the wine bar Piccola Capri next door. Never been there but I guess it is also very good. The focus is on wine and a quick, small dish, of course. They also have a garden in the backyard in summer - quiet, green setting.
Closed on Sundays.
Favorite Dish: Antipasti misto lla casa - a huge variety of homemade antipasti - excellent! And the desserts are also delicious - on several occasions, as a small group, we had a mix of desserts, presented on a huge plate. Absolutely yummy.
As for main courses - Saltimbocca alla romana is perfect. Any lamb with garlic and thyme. Yum.
The pasta is house made - perfect.
Their fish is always fresh and delicious. I *loved* the gilthead and also loup de mer in a salt crust.

This family run restaurant has been a favourite of mine for many years. I've had meals there with my tennis friends, with American friends and also with the family and never been disappointed.
As you can guess from the name ("Hubertus") their are specialised in game/venison. As fits, their rooms are decorated with deer heads, horns and other hunting stuff. In summer they have a beergarden behind the house in a nice setting. And they also have a bowling alley, often frequented by the locals.
The meals are always freshly prepared and come in big portions. It is hearty local food, nothing fancy. If you're not into wine (granted, their wine list is not particularly exciting) you might opt for a yummy Budweiser, the real Czech beer, not the American stuff.
Favorite Dish: Venison with red cabbage and potatoes or dumplings. It is always yummy.

Cafe Toscana looks back on a long tradition of more than 100 years. In 1992 it was bought by the Eisold family from nearby Radeberg. It was one of my favourite cafes but it is not anymore. The service tends to be unattentive and slow. Once I waited about 20 minutes without any of the waitresses taking notice. I left without having ordered anything, but at least I had spent the waiting time for the next bus in a cosy and warm room :-)
It is still a traditional café with good (fancy) cakes. Coffee and tea are still good. Very nice are the views of the "Blaues Wunder" bridge from the winter garden. Breakfast and little meals are also served.
People watching is funny here. Mostly elderly folks meet up for coffee and cake and talk about the good old times.

This café, managed by the Hilton hotel, offers nice coffeehouse atmosphere. An elegant large room with stucco and traditional furniture, replicas of paintings that you can see in the Old Masters Gallery nearby, some classical music from CD. In summer you can sit in front of the Café right on Brühl's Terrace and do some "people watching". Very good (fancy) cakes, ice cream, tea and coffee.
The service is very good, attentive, competent and quick. Prices are similar to other places around Neumarkt/Frauenkirche, but that's of course a bit higher than elsewhere in the city.
Favorite Dish: Darjeeling Tea, Black Forest cake or Sachertorte.

Konditorei Kreutzkamm is well known for the famous Dresdner Weihnachtsstollen and this company dates back to the year 1825 and they also have a branch in Munich close to Marienplatz.
Some other specialities of Konditorei Kreutzmann is their Gingerbread and other Christmas-specialities that are also shipped worldwide.
Be prepared that this is not a really cheap place, you pay about 20% extra for the name, the special ambiente and the fact, that you may taste world-famous specialities !
Favorite Dish: Dresdener Weihnachtsstollen is a traditional fruit loaf that was kept like a treasure in the families of the old DDR.
It needs some time to rest, before you may eat it.
In Munich I had sometimes been in Konditorei Kreutzkamm for their famous Baumkuchen - in Dresden you certainly have to try the famous Stollen and maybe a hot chocolate !!

The Pulverturm is located at the place where the Powder Tower once stood. This tower was built in 1565, when the city walls were completed.
In 1744 the tower was detroyed; only some outer walls remained partly.
In 1763 the construction of the so-called Coselpalais started.
Today, besides the street terras, the restaurant has 4 basement, preserving the remaining parts of the previous buildings.
The restaurant serves Saxonian food, for instance suckling pig and traditional German dishes.
There's also a wine room offering many Saxonian wines fresh cheeses.

This restaurant had been recommended to us as one of the best in Dresden, and I'd say that's absolutely true.
It is situated in Loschwitz, close to the bridge Blue Wonder. There is a very nice beer garden, overlooking the Elbe, but all seats were taken when we arrived.
In fact, we were asked if we had reserved, as the place was very busy. We hadn't, but got a nice table inside, however without any view on the river.
The food was excellent! The emphasis on the menu is on local dishes and we tried several of them. I had a carot soup with honey croutons, an unusual combination, but very good. My mother tried the "Fassbrause", a very! green soda, which reminded her of her childhood. We had no nostalgic feelings and decided to try the local wine instead, which I'm sure was much better.
Vegetarian dished included filled zucchini, for non-vegetarians there was Sauerbraten - marinated beef, which you don't find in restaurants very often, as it takes several days to be prepared. For dessert we had Saxon Quarkkeulchen, a sort of curd dumplings.
Including after dinner coffee, the bill for three was 50 Euro, a very good price for such good food.
Despite the place being really busy, the waiters were all very friendly, took their time to explain the dishes and even pointed out that you can order small portions, if you want to try several dishes.

As you can see from the photo, the Kugelhaus (Sphere House) is not really in the form of a sphere, but of a regular polyhedron with enough equal sides so it approaches being a sphere. But "Regular Polyhedron House" wouldn't have been such a catchy name, would it?
Second photo: Here are VT members Kathrin_E (Kathrin) and german_eagle (Ingo) eating their well-earned brunch at the Kugelhaus -- well-earned because it took them nearly an hour of prodding, cajoling and reminding before they were finally served by the lethargic Kugelhaus staff. Fortunately we weren't in any hurry, but they were getting hungry because they hadn't had any breakfast. (I at least had had some breakfast at my hotel.)
Third photo: Nice setting but extremely slow service. Maybe the waiters were in a go-slow strike of some sort. (The Germans have a nice word for this: Bummelstreik.)
