In the Wöhrl Plaza at Prager Strasse is this cafe. On the first floor and you have an excellent view on the streetlife from every table. The flair reminds on a stock exchange (= "Börse" in German).
Favorite Dish: Just had a coffee here. Quite expensive but the panorama view worth it.

Italien Village is a great restaurant and cafe close to the Semperoper and directely at the river Elbe. In former times "The Italian Village" was the area ,where the workers from Italy used to have their small huts , while working as sculpturers, masons or painters at one of the many churches and buildings, that tourists of today will admire, when coming to Dresden.
Today these huts do not exist anymore, instead there is another great building with various different restaurants inside.
On my 2nd pic. you may see the building of Italian Village behind the monument, and Semperoper of course.
Favorite Dish: I had Handkäse - a stinky cheese, pickeled in spices and herbs and served with salads, bread and butter.
As a drink I had a "Duckstein" - beer, a speciality of the Holsten brewery. That beer is almost red and tasted really great.
Prices are a bit higher than normally in Dresden, BUT still a lot cheaper than in places like Munich or Köln.

Biergarten is a cheap place to eat local specialities, not even 200 meters from Zwinger and Taschbergpalais you may find a really cheap, but nice beergarden and I may highly recommend this place for travellers, who have to calculate and travel on a budget.
The building on my picture is a combination of a shop & supermarket , beeing open daily 06.00a.m. - 09.00p.m. and even at Sat&sunday : 09.00a.m.-08.00p.m.
Prices are cheap in the shop, they have a bakery and you may drink coffee there as well.
Around the building is a cheap beergarden and also a stand selling half a roasted chicken to take away for just 2 €uros.
In the area you will find lots of benches, where you may eat...
Favorite Dish: When-ever I travel in great sunshine I do not care a lot for great service and special food in a fancy restaurant, I rather spend my time in a museum or searching for great architecture...
Then I buy some buttermilk in the shop and maybe a roll and get me a roasted chicken - it fills up my "batteries" again and will not take more than maybe 20 minutes

When you are looking for a really special place for your festivities or maybe you want to celebrate a special event, Coselpalais might be your best choice !
Palais Cosel dates back to 1744, but it was destroyed and rebuilt again in 1760 by Carl Friedrich August von Cosel ( son of August the strong and countess Cosel, who was held in prison for 49 years in castle Stolpen).
The fully restored building of today is mainly used for bureaus, but the Coselpalais Grandcafe & Restaurant has a really beautiful garden-restaurant in the innercourt, a lovely foyer and a big hall used for special festivities .
They have a big menu of fine specialities !
Coselpalais Grandcafe & Restaurant
is open daily 10.00a.m. - 01.00a.m.
Favorite Dish: I spent several days in Dresden in summer 2004 and so I had some coffee and cake there one day, as for dinner and lunch prices are higher than normally and as a single traveller it is always hard to get a table just for my own in a place like this.

Wettiner Keller was my favorite cafe at Bruehlsche terrasse, maybe simply because of that great building you may see on my picture, but once that you have some icecream on a hot summerday there, you might return for more again and again.
Brühlsche Terrasse in Dresden is the wide boulevard high above the river Elbe, where deep below all of the steamships are docked.
This boulevard starts next to the Schloß and ends at the Academy . It is maybe 12 meters wide and includes trees, benches and garden-cafes and -restaurants.
Wettiner Keller is open:
Tue-Sat : 06.00p.m. till midnight
Favorite Dish: It was a hot summerday in july 2004 and I had a delicious icecream-cup with fruits and liquor.
This garden-restaurant is part of the Dresden-Hilton and a really nice place to relax !
NO need to dress up formally !!

Schloss Albrechtsberg - the name comes from Prince Albrecht, brother of the prussian Kaiser Wilhelm I.
He had this castle built in late classic-style between 1851 and 1854 by Adolph Lohse / a student of Schinkel.
The castle park is open to the public and a part of the castle is used as a restaurant, mainly for special events and festivities
The Opening times of Prinzenkeller are
Monday+Tuesday: 8.30a.m. - 02.30p.m.
Wednesday-Friday: 8.30a.m. -midnight
Saturday+Sunday: 11.00a.m. - midnight
Favorite Dish: I had a cake and espresso there in summer 2004 and it was nice to see, that there is a HOGA - Hotelfachschule and the students of this hotelschool served in kitchen and service. (It reminded me of my time in Hotelmanagement-school of Vienna)

Pf. Molkerei dates back to the year 1892 and all of the walls are covered by beautiful tiles.
Last summer I saw in a brochure this lovely dairy, where you may also sit in this side-room and enjoy some Buttermilk and cheese, and so I booked a tourbus, that would stop there in order to take a picture and taste some of their food and have a buttermilk....
I entered the shop and in that very moment the lady at the counter started to scream
NO Photographs !!!
I simply turned around and gave up my plans to buy anything there and had some coffee somewhere else...
I did not disturb anyone BUT had the feeling, that lots of customers in the shop were rather disturbed by that sceaming lady than by my camera.
They had a sign at their door about photography, BUT the door was open, so I did not see it...
In December 2004 I returned shortly before 06.00p.m. and took my pictures legally from OUTside of the shop.
And I also got the legal advice by a VT-friend : as long as you make a picture of a place that is open to the public and you stand with your camera on a public ground, you may take that photo without any problem.
Of course you may not look into a private window and take pics !
If the Molkerei wants to prevent me from taking pics, they could have curtains at their windows...
:-))
Favorite Dish: Friends reading my pages regularily will know that I am a big fan of all kinds of cheese and even drink a lot of buttermilk...
I would be the perfect customer for Pf.... Molkerei, BUT I will certainly never enter this place to buy anything.
I even would never print out their full name here on VT...

This restaurant is well known among the locals for excellent dining. Make sure to reserve a table on weekends! On Mother's Day the family and me went there by car w/o reservation and we almost didn't get a table.
The hotel has a charming setting in a green valley in the outskirts of the city. The building from the 19th century was originally a pasta factory. It's beautifully restored and transformed into a small and charming hotel with restaurant.
The staff was very attentive, friendly, quick, not in the slightest snobby.
Favorite Dish: First we got a 'greeting from the kitchen' - home made egg salad with dark bread and butter - delicious. Then we had a green salad with grilled pieces of paprika, filled with ricotta, in a tzatziki sauce. Yummy! The green salad was not just plain lettuce and what you usually get - they had added some really tasty - almost spicey - stuff.
Main course was Argentinian beef steak with pasta (filled with ricotta) and French beans. I had ordered my steak medium and it was perfect. My parents liked their steak well done and it was exactly right for them, too.
We had a red house wine from Sicily (a Salice Salentino) which was excellent.
The bill came to 80 Euro with tip, which was okay I thought. I'd eat there anytime again, preferrably on a weekday when it is a bit quieter.

Mekong is a big river in South East Asia - and a small restaurant in Dresden-Neustadt! We stumbled upon it accidentally looking for some place to eat. It looked nice from the outside, but two guys blocked the entrance and we couldn't get in... After walking around the block for one more time, the guys were gone and we could eventually enter. The place is pretty small and comes up with a weird decoration of Vietnamese and German elements. But it has a great Pho (noodle soup) and you can sit outside in a little backyard.
Favorite Dish: Pho Bo was good, almost as in Vietnam itself

Bussmann's has a semi South American theme, boasting a large mural of Rio de Janeiro on the 2nd floor wall. However, my favorite offerings from the menu were decidedly German. They usually have a lounge singer Tuesday - Sunday nights. I thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment. During my visit, we were treated to an Australian performer named Trevor Jones who was really terrific. Evidentally he's playing at Ayers Rock (also in Dresden) in August 2007 and will be back at Bussmann's in December 2007. If you're going to be in the area, drop by to give him a listen - he's a lot of fun.
Favorite Dish: I loved their potato soup; it was full of fresh veggies and chunks of yummy sausage. I went to Bussmann's at least 7 or 8 times and had the soup 5 of them! They have an excellent drink menu as well.
