The Ratskeller in Stollberg is located next to the Town Hall. It offers traditional cuisine for low costs.
Favorite Dish: I was here in December and ordered pork, Saxon dumplings & vegetables + 1 beer. As an extra I got a plate of salat. The service was excellent and all waiters were friendly. I just had to wait ten minutes for my meal and not even two minutes for my beer. All in all the bill shoed an amount of less then € 8.00.
This restaurant is to find in Wolkenstein, central Erzgebirge (see my off-the-beaten-path-tip). The dining room is quite small and cosy with vaulted ceiling. They also have a (summer) terrace overlooking the nice square and with view of the castle.
The Keller family restored the old (500 years) house and opened this restaurant in 1998. The service is very friendly and competent. They serve local food, wine and beer from Germany.
Favorite Dish: I had spinach tagliatelle with salmon and a creamy sauce, which came (unexpectedly) with a big salad (served before the main course). The salad was wonderful - not only the usual "green" salads. Tagliatelle and salmon were excellent. I also had white wine (a Riesling) from the Rhine and mineral water. The Riesling could have been more dry (I like the Alsacienne Riesling :-)), but it was ok. The bill was 13 Euro incl. tip - a steal.
On top of Mt. Fichtelberg you find the hotel & restaurant Fichtelberghaus. The first hut at this place was built in the 1880s. It burnt down twice and was rebuilt each time right away.
They serve average local food, nothing special. Honestly, I was just happy to find a warm and cosy place due to the cold wind outside.
Service was quick and attentive, prices reasonable.
Favorite Dish: I only stopped for a short break during skiing, therefore had just potato salad with sausages and a beer.
