A warm lunchtime and a sign pointing to a biergarten, easy choice!
Right in the city centre a courtyard biergarden, friendly service and lots to choose from on the menu, both went for salad, and very tasty and large, just how we like them, washed down with a couple of beers, an enjoyable lunch stop.

Next door to our apartment and a wet evening so why go any further? Comfortable restaurant with plenty to tempt me and enough vegetarian choices for Mrs Bonio as well. Enjoyed my lamb, tasty and well cooked, omelette for herself equally good. Managed a dessert between us - excellent.
Good place to visit - recommended.

It's a small restaurant near Albrechts Castle with nice food and good service. There is quite small menu-list, but still enough to have a good meal.
Also there is a summer terrace with marvelous view on the city and main church.
And some examples of pricing policy:
Soft drinks (cola etc.) - 2,80 euro
beer (radeberger 0,5) - 3,00 euro
soup of the day - from 3,00 to 3,80 euro
bratwurst with potato salad - 5,90 euro
Favorite Dish: Different kinds of traditional soups.

Attracted here by the Schwerter bier sign outside, a chance to try to local brew. On the menu some typical German dishes, mostly Ukrainian though so an opportunity to try something different. Fortunately an English menu was availabe, can just about manage German but no experience of the Ukrainian language.
Chose to try soljanka, and proved similar to goulash - a good choice - very tasty. Good vegetarian choices for Mrs Bonio too and enjoyed the beer too.
A good lunch - recommended.

This tavern next to the Church of Our Lady was built in 1532. Vincent Richter, Colonel of the Royal Army bought this house in 1873. The interior is still in mediaeval stile - furniture are originals! The food is traditional and really tasty. The price is a bit above average but for this you have a typical Mediaeval atmosphere.

There are some restaurants/cafés on the castle hill, all of them located on the southern side with great views of the old town. They all have a nice, cosy atmosphere.
I went into the small café which is located most towards the cathedral (No. 6?). I am sorry I cannot tell you any telephone number or website. The building dates from 1726/28 - very charming. When I walked on my jaw dropped down: there was a small terrace with stunning views of the old town of Meissen, absolutely wonderful!
Favorite Dish: I had a piece of cake and a tea; both very good. I remember that guests at the neighbouring table had a mixed salad and they were pleased as well. Not to miss is a glass of local wine though ...

Meissen is also famous for the Meissen Fummel, a very filigrane kind of cake - and for its delicious wines!
When we were there, we didn't try any, but fortunately VT member Leipzig = Christian was nice enough to bring us a bottle of Saxonian white wine. And it really was delicious!!!!!!!

When in Meißen, go to this bakery and ask for the famous Meißner Fummel. It looks like a loaf of bread blown up by a bicycle pump until it is about to burst. Apparently, it is not famous for its taste but to see whether you can bring it back to your destination without it falling apart.
Legend has it that the Duke of Saxony commanded that a Meissen Fummel was to be carried along on each tour of the messenger. This messenger was known to like the Saxonian wine quite a bit (or rather too much). If the rider delivered the Fummel all crumbled, the Duke knew, that the messenger had been drinking too much and had not obeyed his rule!!!

This wooden beam building has great old world atmosphere, helping to offset its expensive prices. It's worth a look and glass of wine at least.
Favorite Dish: Extensive if expensive wine list. Have not had the pleasure to eat or drink here yet as everytime I go, it's closed! :S

This cozy little place is right in the Albrechtsburg area, up on the hill, just across from the Cathedral. I would have thought it touristy but it was full of locals and had a nice relaxed atmosphere.
Favorite Dish: I had a great beer goulash which came with a Meissener Schwerter Pils, from the local brewery. This lunch special was only 5 Euros. They have an extensive wine list but they also had all the Schwerter beers on tap, including a fantastic dunkles and a very different amber beer, leaning towards an Marzen. For desert, I had a "German Porter," a lovely deep dark strong ale.
