Bakery/Cafe Am Tor
A very nice place to have coffee and cake is the local bakery with cafe right at the entrance to the old town. The name "Am Tor" refers to the location by the "Niedertor", a former city gate. They have a cosy, nicely decorated room but also tables outside - you can sit in the shade there and do some people watching :-)
Very friendly staff. Prices are low.
Update: Be forewarned, their opening hours are somewhat ... umm ... odd. Was back in 2015 and found this: Mon - Fri 6.30 - 18 h, Sat 6 - 12 and 14 - 17 h, Sun 14 - 17 h. Which is ok. However, they were closed on major holidays like Ascension Day, Whit Sunday and - Monday, even the Tuesday after.
Favorite Dish: I had a piece of yummy chocolate cake and a very good cappuccino. I think I paid less 2.60 Euro.

The most fancy (haha!) place in Stolpen. It is a 3star hotel (if I recall correctly) with a nice restaurant and beautiful terrace. Proper service, good local food. I especially liked the venison with red cabbage and dumplings.
Update: I was back in Dec 2013 for some cake and tea - excellent. The cake was from a local bakery (Göhler) and yummy, the tea was pretty good, too. Nice Christmas decoration, too. Prices are still very reasonable.

Garküche: simple but good
This is one of the oldest restaurants of Stolpen, first mentioned in 1659. It was the favourite place of the guards since it is located close to the Niedertor city gate.
Simple local food is offered. Quality is good, prices are low.
Exactly the place for a quick lunch or so.

Zur Linde: Local food again
Same deal like with the Garküche. It is an old restaurant with basic food, some more choices than the Garküche. Prices are similar.
A place for locals.
