In the centre of Dresden you may take one of these funny Velo-Taxis that may take 2 persons around the town and is driven by muscular-power of a student. That kind of Taxi is certainly a good equivalent to ordinary taxis, especially for tourists, not beeing in a hurry during their vacations, and they may go at streets, where ordinary cars wre not allowed to drive through. The price of the ride is per person:2,50 € for up to 1000 meters1,00 € for each additional KmA ride of 30 minutes is 7,50 €uroschildren up to 2 years are freefrom 2 till 12 years they pay half price .

Dresden - hop-on, hop-off tourbuses

by globetrott

In Dresden you may choose between different tour-operators, offering a big city-tour for a price of ca.18 €uros. The company I have choosen last summer was the one, sending their buses around in a circle each full hour and you could hop on and off as often as you wished to.This system is somehow great, and I had my chance to get off at the Standesamt in Goethestrasse and then again at Blaues Wunder and Pf... Molkerei, but finally I spent the whole day on the bus that way and once I missed the bus, simply because the next bus took a detour and I had to wait another hour for it.With a good town-map you could easily do these tours completely on your own, and will find the next buses and trams quite easily and several times each hour of the day.On my link below you may get more infos about the public trafic in Dresden.

Loschwitzer Standseilbahn

by globetrott

In Dresden-Loschwitz, just about 200 meters from the "Blaues Wunder" you may take also another cablecar to get uphill to the area called "Weisser Hirsch" (white deer) with an excellent panorama-view from the Restaurant Luisenhof. This cablecar, that looks like an ordinary tram, but is torn uphill by a cable needs 3 minutes to take you up the track beeing just 547 meters long.Trains run on a regular basis about 4 times every hour. The restaurant is open :Monday - Saturday :11.00a.m. - 01.00a.m.Sunday : 10.00a.m. - midnight.

The Schwebebahn in Dresden-Lössnitz

Close to the "Blaues Wunder" in Dresden-Loschwitz you may take this "Schwebebahn" / suspension railway in order to climb up the hill and have a great panorama-view of Dresden and the surroundings. This suspension-railway dates back to the year 1898 and was opened in 1901, beeing the first of its kind, climbing uphill by hanging down of the construction. The total length is just 274 meters and the differnce in height is 84 meters.Below you may see a link to the web-page of the Schwebebahn with many links to different tramways all over the world.

Take the Waldeisenbahn in Bad Muskau

by globetrott

In Bad Muskau you may take the Waldeisenbahn (Muskau Forest Railway). It is a 600mm narrow-gage railway founded in 1885 and it gave up the service in 1978.It finally became a tourist-attraction in 1993 and it is a lot of fun to take such an old steamtrain and explore the area around Bad Muskau. The price of the round trip is 9,- € children 6-15 years are half price and less than 6 years - free of chargeFor timetable & more infos :click on the link below !

Cruising Saxony between Schandau and Meissen

by globetrott

For romantic people and those, beeing interested in old steam-ships I may highly recommend to take the steam-boat in order to explore the most important places along the river Elbe:Ships will start at Dresden and go down the river to Meissen or up the river, where you may get to places like Schloss Pillnitz - Pirna - Rathen & Elbsandgebirge - Festung Königstein - Bad Schandau and sometimes even further to Hrensko and Decin in Czechia. While other shipping-companies have maybe 1 or 2 steamships only, the shippingline in Dresden has only a very few other ships, but all of the rest are powered by steam !Such an excursion from Dresden might take the whole day, but it is well worth it !Where-ever you go upstream, you may also take back the train in order to save time, or get there by train and get back by ship.Click on the link below for the ship-schedule !
