Despite there being no signs to the contrary, my host apparently parked his car in the wrong place! We returned from our little trip to find a card from the Burgermeister, which began:
"Sehr geehrte Verkehrsteilnehmerin, sehr geehrter Verkehsteilnehmer,
Which I think translates as "Very honoured road user" and as road users come in male and female varieties, they have to say it twice.
Anyway, this little friendly card went on to say that my host would be receiving a fine in the post for illegal parking.
It finished with:
"Mit freundlichen Gruessen"
"With friendly greetings" and a list of streets where it IS possible to park:
Carl-Ritter-Strasse
Schlossparkplatz
Marschlinger Hbf
Wallstrasse
An den Fischteichen
Turnstrasse
Germans are nothing if not oh so polite.

Quedlinburg feels very safe and the only thing I think worth mentioning is that you shouldn't stroll the streets around the Schlossberg in high heels. The area there is full of cobbles which are definately not always level, so take care if walking here with the old and young in your family and be prepared if you bring a baby buggy.
