Quality food given with a quality service. Dignified atmosphere, a place to enjoy food. Try to get a seat looking out on the Markplatz.
Favorite Dish: The main meals ooze quality. I had the leg of rabbit in a mustard and tarragon sauce with bread dumplings and red cabbage - excellent, and not as hard on the pocket as one might imagine. The dessert of Zucchini kuchen with a raspberry sauce and lemon sorbet finished the meal memorably.

In the summer months you can dine outside. Every now and again, you will here the ringing of bells to sound the arrival of the steam train from the Harzschmalspurbahnen passing by literally within a few yards of where you are having lunch or dinner. A truly amazing sight!
Favorite Dish: Wide variety of very good meals on offer.

Before entering the castle we decided to rest a bit and since we were thirsty we decided to pay a visit to the cafe and restaurant Schlossterrassen. The location is perfect - close to the entrance of the castle and with a terrace and wintergarden that offer views of the Harz mountains, even as far as the Brocken mountain (if the weather co-operates).
The ambience is like that of a typical tourist restaurant. I cannot review the food since we didn't have any. The service was quick and attentive and from my observations the other guests were quite happy also.
The Apple juice with sparkling water, also known as Apfelsaftschorle, was ok, price acceptable.

We had chosen the 'half-board' option, meaning that breakfast buffet and dinner were included in the hotel stay. I was hoping for the best since one never knows ... but since the hotel also has a highly acclaimed gourmet restaurant I was optimistic for the food. And it turned out to be an excellent choice!
Dinner was in the Hexenstube restaurant, which is also open for guests that don't stay at the hotel. We got a fix table in the section right by the large windows offering views of the Markt square and the town hall. Ambience was quite upscale as expected, but not overly stiff, service outstanding.
Favorite Dish: From starters over soups and main courses to desserts - everything was delicious. I want to point out that I thought especially the starters and the desserts were superb. The creme brulee was one of the best I've ever had. My mother chose fruit sorbet which was delicious also. The recommended wines were excellent, too.

The restaurant is located in the centre of Wernigerode. Just follow the sign and you're in a cosey farm house interior decorated with farm tools and potatos, yes, everywhere POTATOS! ...very German.
Whe I walked in, it felt a bit awkawd, because it was soooo quite! But the services were good and... ahhh the menue was in both German and English! Very handy indeed!
