Don't forget your swimming suits
Favorite thing: The summers can be really hot in Kiel. More than 30C in July and August is to be expected. Therefor you should not forget your bathing suits. There are a lot of beaches surrounding the Kiel fjord. I prefer the one which is called Falckenstein on the west coast of the fjord to be reached by bus 502 and of course by car.
There are several beaches along the Fjord where you have to pay taxes, most of them on the east coast. All beaches inside the city areal of Kiel are free. On Falckenstein beach it is allowed to have a barbecue so you can spend the whole day at the beach .
Favorite thing: K, i dunno if they do this every Saturday, but outside the HauptBahnHof they had an exhibition of old tractors, and (i guess) the local orchestra playing. Was fantastic, loads of people everywhere. Bit of an odd location though, i would have thought it would be closer to the center of town...
Fondest memory: Anyway, the HauptBahnHof is easy enough to find, so go have a look some Saturday...

Favorite thing: I visited this city few times long time ago. Each time was only for few hours and I never actually spend the night over here. Maybe I will visit again one day, meanwhile you can check the official site, which is available also in English:
Favorite thing: there are at all 11 different called harbours in Kiel. The new Noray-harbour from where the "Color-Line" connects to Oslo every day, the Sweden-harbour with daily connection to Göteborg by Stena-lin and the Ostsee (baltic sea) Harbour from where the "TransRussiaExpress" connects three times the week to St. Petersburg, but only cargo are the biggest. Besides there are two yacht harbours and several more smaller harbour parts.

Kiel - Baltic sea - "Kieler Woche"
Favorite thing: Once a year a big harbour party together with a "regatta" take place in Kiel. For one week there are at the whole west side harbour mile a lot of live music, too much to eat and drink and party until late in the night. Besides and the real reason for this event you can observe several ship races on the "Kieler Förde".

Kiel is the capital of...
Favorite thing: Kiel is the capital of Schleswig-Holstein, the most northern state of the Federal Republic of Germany. This regional center on the Baltic Sea is an important ship building port, and there are frequent ferry connections via the Kiel canal to the North Sea. They have a nice university where they offer every subject from agriculture to the Zodiacal Belt, and students can do a lot of sailing in their spare time! Not bad eh? :)
Driving a car in Germany:You...
Favorite thing: Driving a car in Germany:
You can drive as fast as you want on Autobahn (The large highway going through most of Germany, but the reccomended speed is 130 km/h if no signs are around to say otherwise.
On smaller roads around houses there is a limit of 50 km.h.
You have to use seatbelts back and front in Germany, it's the law, so buckle up.
Driving in Kiel is fine, but not if you are above the 0,5 limit alcohole in your bloodstream. But then again, if you so much have SNIFFED at a beer you shouldn't drive. YOU HEAR ME?!
In case of emergency while in Kiel (or anywhere in Germany), call 112.

Favorite thing: Go inside of this submarine.
Not so far away from Laboe is a little village called Heikendorf.
There is a monument for all these dead Submarine Drivers!
It's really Impressive.
