  • Naval Memorial (Naval Museum)

Some information about...The laying of the foundation stone of the 72 m tower was on 8th August 1927. The inauguration of the memorial took place on 30th May 1936.My experience...There are two possibilities to reach the top of the tower. The first one (and the easier) is using an elevator. The second (harder) way is via 341 steps on foot. The inside...

  • Beach

Very good beach, strange shelters too, but they look effective wind breaks. Volleyball to watch and several bars overlooking too. The water is very shallow, I had to go a long way out for a swim...mind the boats!

  • U995

One of the few surviving U-Boats. In surprisingly good condition and an interesting trip around it. Tiny inside, whatever the history I had to admire the courage of the crew. More photos on t'logue

There are lots of little kiosk like this with their food displayed out. My husband bought a crepe from one kiosk, and also some spaggetti from another. I was recommended by a lady in a small souvenier stall that this stall with blue and white awning is clean. Laboe Tourist Traps

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Marine-Ehrenmal, a memorial for all people who died on sea (On the pic you can see it in the background). It was opened in 1936, and that's why it has this ugly Nazi-style architechture. I hated the inside! Full of flags and war heroes, YUCK!
What I really enjoyed, however, was the view from the 85 metre tower. On a bright day you can see all the way to Sweden ;-))))

Tickets cost 2,80 € and I really think it's better value to visit the submarine!!!

  • Good bike ride

Hire a bike in the town (tourist office has details) and head off up the coast, there is a cyclepath - no traffic. We managed to get as far as Schonberger Strand around 15km away I guess, much easier going back with the wind behind us! Only my second time on a bike in about 15 years, legs ok - backside agony! More photos on t'logue.

  • Walking around the beach

It was a pleasant surprise to see Laboe as more than a naval memorial. I suppose people would come here during the summer and play with their dogs, run around the beach and eat ice creams, swim a little etc, These beach chairs are really unqiue - I think they are for rent!!! with all the numbers on it

  • Das Boot

You must have seen the movie 'Das Boot' before you go here! It is one of the best German movies ever made and knowing all the stories, the quotes and the jokes from the film makes you enjoy the submarine visit! We did. In the travelogue you will see what I mean... ;-)
