    Red bricky city

by Rupanworld Written Jan 8, 2008

Favorite thing: One beautiful thing about this city is that a major part of it including the roads is made of red bricks and the city at a glance appears to be very red and beautiful. After many days of coming back from the tour I still remember it as red and picturesque. Almost like a fairy tale!!

    Interesting gables

by Rupanworld Written Jan 8, 2008

Favorite thing: The houses all across the city have gables of different shapes and sizes and this is a uniqueness in itself. For once I felt not having seen two identical gables, but I have seen only some parts of the city, and therefore I would not conclude that. but just watching the gables of houses across the city is a pretty interesting part of tourism in the city.

    Salzspeicher - Salt Warehouses

Favorite thing: The Salzspeicher are six gabled salt warehouses that stand just beyond the Hosltertor. Of course they are located directly on the River Trave, which was and is Lübeck's link with the Baltic Sea.

Salt was produced in nearby Luneberg and transported here, where it used to preserve fish - particularly herring - that was caught in the sea. Salt was also bartered with other Hanseatic traders for luxury items such as furs and whalebone.

Favorite thing: As you walk from the train station toward the Holstentor, you'll cross a small bridge, the Puppenbrücke, decorated on each corner with statuary representing the roles that Lübeck has played in the history of its region. They may be both your first and last images of this beautiful city.

    Baggage stores in Lubeck

by Liolio Written Jan 9, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: If you come to Lubeck and have your luggage with you, be prepared to carry it with you all the time as there are no places to leave it - neither in the airport or railway or bus station. Unless you stay for more than one day and have a hotel room or other place to stay.

    Petrikirche--views from high above Lübeck

View of Lbeck from the Petrikirche

Favorite thing: An unforgettable and necessary stop for anyone visiting Lübeck is the Petrikirche.

The bottom of the church has been converted to an exhibit hall, but hop on the elevator up to the top of the spire for some breathtaking views of Lübeck!!

Fondest memory: I have many fond memories of Lübeck, but the ones that stick out in my mind are the views of the city from the top of the Petrikirche, and visiting the home of the Niederegger Marzipan Company.

Hanse-town Lübeck - Marzipan and Holstentor

    the Holstentor

Favorite thing: Beautiful traditional harbour town at the baltic sea. Famous for its marzipan, its beautiful old town and of course the Holstentor (in former times part of city protection). All around Lübeck you find a lot of green fields where sheeps, horses and cows still live their peaceful lifes.
In my travelogues I´ve got some pictures of it.

Favorite thing: You have to see all parts of the inner city. There are many historical buildings and churches. Therfore, Lübeck is UNESCO world culture heritage. Another nice thing is that it takes just a few minutes to the Baltic Sea and the beach.

Favorite thing: I headed from 1963 to 1970 the Belgian branch of the Lübeck based National Lebensversicherungsgesellschaft (now merged with Colonia). I visited the HQ of the company several times and thus the city.
Lübeck must be visited thoroughly: it is one of my great favorites. My bosses were real Prussians (up to 1945 the Company was based in Stettin (now Schezsin in Polen) and straightforwarded and extremely friendly.
Since my roots are partly in Bruges (Flanders - Belgium) I felt at home in Lübeck from the first day on. Bruges was also an important member of the Hansa. Buildings, included huge churches, were in both cities build in brickx, both cities boast old almshouses (Heiliger Geist Spital in Lübeck and St Johns in Bruges),......

Fondest memory: The people I worked with. During my last visit I was unable to locate them.

    by tom0990 Written Aug 24, 2002

Favorite thing: Although it sounds ultra-touristy, I thoroughly enjoyed a boat ride around the city, and learned a lot from it too.

Fondest memory: Sit in the cafe outside the Rathaus and drink a (or several) Lübsch Bier. It reminded me of Kölsch, and the combination of the beer and the setting made for an unforgetable evening.

Favorite thing: The Altstadt (Old Town) of Lubeck is a UNESCO world heritage site and most of the things a visitor to Lubeck will want to see are within its boundaries.
