The 'Ice world' exhibition has been putting on its winter exhibition at the conference centre for the past few years during December and January.

Despite the impressive website, extensive advertising and the obvious skill of the sculptors , it was a little underwhelming.

With an eight-euro entrance tag the temperature controlled room contained about thirty to fourty ice sculptures - this year (2007) on the theme of 'Ice Age - the film'. You can also buy a combined ticket for a small slippy slope and a skating rink.

Unique Suggestions: Think of it as an 'art' exhibition, and don't miss the outside ice bar (no entrance fee, and not part of the Ice world) who serve superb Gluhwein.

Fun Alternatives: Build a snowman

Lbeck XMas market on the tacky side

With one of the most wonderful historic surroundings possible, it is quite regrettable that the Christmas market at the city hall is a bit on the tacky side. Maybe the nicer stands are somewhere else, maybe it is because of the Swedish tourists just wanting to get drunk on Glögg (Glühwein), maybe only the ugly stands remained open after Christmas, I don't know. An optical disappointment. The Glühwein was pretty good though :-)
BTW "Glaedelig Jul" is Danish for "Happy Christmas" -- as I said on my Schleswig Holstein page, this part of Germany looks out to its Scandinavian neighbors!

Unique Suggestions: Do as the Swedish do.... have one more Glögg than necessary and the aesthetic considerations will subliminate into dizzy drunkenness!

Fun Alternatives: There are many nice shops selling authentic crafts items around the old town. Just keep your eyes open a bit when walking through the streets.
