When I drove from Bad Oldeslohe to Kiel I wanted to spend some time to see what the region is like before I had to get onto the ferry to Göteborg. This lake district around Plön appealed very much to me so I drove around the lake in partly stormy weather. When the weather became really tough – heavy winds and rain – I thought that it is time to warm me up from the inside and … voilà, there was this sign “romantic garden café” in Bosau. I loved their garden and the little house with interior seating as well. But given the wonderful fresh breeze I decided to have my coffee and cake outside. I was amazed by the huge size of their cakes – the photo doesn’t really show how big they are. They had three fresh ones sitting in the display case and I chose the one with egg flip and raspberries. Oh heaven…. It really tasted good and it was so much that I even couldn’t finish it (which is ridiculous given the “cake story of Taxinge” almost one week later, haha). They also serve light lunch, at that day they had a blackboard with their selections. It was soup mostly (for 3-5 €), salad (7-9 €, the latter with fresh fish as well) and two vegetarian dishes, quiches.
For the ones with huge appetite but smaller stomach they serves their cakes also as half portion (1,50 €).
My bill came to 5,30 € (cake 2,70 € and Latte Macchiato 2,60 €).
Their garden was full with flowers and thingies (one might call it junk, but it looked cute: ceramic pots and all these things an avid gardener might need). I especially liked their iron artwork, as on one of the photos with that rowing mouse.

It is quite easy to find. Bosau is at the south-eastern part of Plön Lake. It does not have many streets; their main one is Stadtbeker Strasse. The café is hidden behind a huge hedge which covers part of the sign in summer. But it is opposite of the little road that leads to Bosau’s beach and harbour. Parking is possible in the little street called Hasenheide.

The weblink below is part of the one for the farmhouse. It has more photos which show the lovely landscape of Bosau and Plön Lake. And it mentions that they serve English Tea from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. :-) With scones......Related to:
